Well, Brendon’s first stint in charge of the white ball team didn’t go as planned (unless he planned to get thrashed in four of the five games of course). Some of those matches were a hard watch..
The England team are following the ladies in getting embarrassed on a game by game basis. The Beeb has some interesting stats over the past few years on where it's going (gone) wrong. Improve at the top England lost three wickets in the powerplay against India in Nagpur, continuing their struggles at the top of the order. They were once given electric starts by Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy but since the start of 2022, England have lost 88 wickets in the first 10 overs across 44 matches. That gives them an average of losing two wickets per match in the first 10 overs - the most for any Full Member nation in this timeframe. Protect Buttler The struggles at the top have impacted their best ODI batter, captain Jos Buttler. England's skipper had only come into bat before the 15th over 10 times in 112 innings before 2022, when batting at number five or lower. Since then he has had to do so 13 times in 29 ODI innings. Ton up England have struggled to dominate or even control ODIs with the bat since their peak under Morgan. In the period between their exit from the 2015 World Cup and victory at Lord's four years later, England batters scored 55 centuries in 99 ODIs. In 63 matches since they have scored only 23 centuries. They have gone from averaging 0.56 centuries per game to 0.37. Their number of century partnerships have dropped too. There have been 31 hundred stands for England since the 2019 World Cup. In the four years prior to lifting the trophy they scored 69. Stop getting bowled out It does not take an expert to say that getting bowled out in an ODI is suboptimal. England were bowled out for the 21st time in 44 ODIs since the start of 2022 on Thursday. Between 2016 and 2021 they were dismissed 20 times in 98 innings. England in India: Statistics Brendon McCullum must change as England white-ball coach
I saw an intriguing stat yesterday which is that since the introduction of The Hundred in 2021, England's only ODI away series wins have been against Bangladesh and Netherlands. Could just be a coincidence, but there has been a sidelining of the domestic 50 overs game in that time which can't be helping matters.
Looks like Smudger is in good form again after his blips against India. First test ton and now he's 69 not out in the second. I hate him..
Another day, another hundred for Smith. He seems to have so much more time than the average batsman to play his shots. I hate him. I may have said that..
Not sure we've won many home ODI series in that time either. Who knew that you had to play a format in order to be any good at it?
Another day, another huge loss in India. These games are becoming so one sided we may as well give some of the fringe players a game. Phil Not blaming just one player but Phil Salt is not an England opener in this format against top opposition..
Did his bowling action look suspicious to anyone who saw it ? Australia spinner Matthew Kuhnemann reported for suspected illegal bowling action
Darrell Hair would not doubt allow it, but there again he was an Aussie racist **** who only noballed Murali..
Yep, truly woeful, at least we can take one positive away from this series and that is that we are consistent in our woefulness..
Haven't watched a ball of cricket (except for the highlights of that Abhisekh Sharma hundred) since the Aussie tour, but will start from tomorrow with the WPL starting. Shame that Alyssa Healy, Kate Cross, Sophie Molineux and Kate Cross will miss it through injuries, while the biggest miss will be Sophie Devine who is taking a break from cricket.
Australia struggling for the Champions trophy ? Australia thrashed by Sri Lanka in final match before Champions Trophy India must be strong favourites?
Conditions will favour the sub continent teams and Pakistan are at home. Afghanistan could be the surprise package..
And they're off; The Chumpions Trophy has kicked off with the hosts Pakistan entertaining the crowd and the Kiwis in game one. Pakistan won the toss and chose to field on a pitch that looks like the bowlers may get some help early on.
Impressive centuries from Latham and Young aided by a quick fire 50 by Phillips lead NZ to a very good total. Be a real test for Pakistani now although apparently they chased down 300 not so long ago.
