I normally do about 8 or so away matches a season, mainly the local ones but I like to do a couple of more distant ones too. Only done Wealdstone away from home so far this season, Dagenham on November 16th should be my next one.
Got my ticket for York, making a weekend of it this time. 150-200 notes for a city centre hotel though by the looks of it, which is shocking.
Enjoy, always a decent day/night in York, I knocked it on the head this season, 12:30 kick off and no trains not much point really, think it’s sold out hasn’t it?
When I've stayed in York for the match and a weekend I've always used the Monkgate Guesthouse. Parking, 100 yards outside city walls, rooms fine and good breakfast, don't know if that's any help for you SL?
Sold out unfortunately. When I lived in Saudi, you could get a modern 2 bed flat for the night for around 50 quid and a lot of people are paid 2 or 3 times ++ what you get in the UK. Total rip off.
We briefly looked at staying overnight in Halifax as we've got ancestry stuff we'd like to look at. Train + Hotel is more expensive than my recent holiday to Seville
Worst of both worlds in the UK sadly. High costs, relatively low wages for most of us. Everything seems a rip off certainly in the last 5 years or so. Whenever I go abroad comparable travel, accommodation, food and booze, match or gig tickets etc in other Euro countries doesn't seem to cost anywhere near as much and their wages aren't too different to ours and in a lot places in North and Western Europe average income is now higher than here. One of the reasons I've cut down on aways a lot in recent years. Can't justify spending £££ every other week.
Should be 1,800 Charlton fans at the Hall on Saturday. great atmosphere expected and a gate approx. 9,300 or thereabouts. This from the Charlton website: "Tickets for Saturday’s first round Emirates FA Cup tie against Southend United are back on priority sale after the club's initial allocation sold out. The club was given an initial allocation of 815 tickets and have now received an additional 1,080 tickets which went back on sale at 2pm today (Wednesday, October 30th)."
