Absolutely. Great stadium, shame it's for Rugby though IMO. If the whole thing is behind closed doors you could easily spread it across some of the Championship stadiums as well. I should add, just our luck the only chance England has of hosting an internation football tournamet is during a global pandemic. No doubt the powers that be will take the opportunity if it is in England to make sure we don't get another one for decades afterwards.
tbh I'm pretty certain you'll have fans back at league games before the season is finished. Season ends right on the back end of May. We are already discussing having pubs and restaurants open in April.
Maximum of 10,000 fans until 21 June - FFS! So, the government is restricting fans for the first two England games. Do they seriously expect us to believe it would be less safe than one week earlier? I can't believe they've suddenly gone strict and inflexible over this. They should have done this in November and we wouldn't be in this bloody mess.
It was always likely though, and to be honest I'd be surprised if there was that many fans there. I can't really see open travel between the countries being allowed at that date, and I can only really see home fans being allowed in. I've sold my tickets for the Wales games, I think it's so unlikely that any Welsh fans will get in to any of the grounds, and should they then it's going to be in a more or less empty bowl. Hoping to spend the money on some of the World Cup qualifiers from September onwards instead, seems a more feasible and realistic aim.
But from 21 June all legal limits on mixing are to be removed. So why don't they just bring it forward 8 days? Seems crazy to impose arbitrary limits when you're hosting a tournament . Especially as I have bloody tickets!
It's just the minimum date for that to happen as it stands, nothing's set in stone. No one's really sure what's happening with the tournament and whether it's going to go ahead as planned, at any stage it could get scrapped, postponed or moved. I doubt the government are going to make a decision dependent on it so far out with that in mind - but even if it does go ahead in England, it was always incredibly likely that it wasn't going to be near full capacity. Yes, it's frustrating, and I'd have loved for it to get ahead as planned last year, but it's just what everyone's had to go through for the last year for all sport.
UEFA seem still to be keen on the 12 county idea which must a big risk if they want to have fans too.
If they do, it's because they don't want them. Ireland won't want it for sure and I'd be shocked if they ended up hosting games, even if they were behind closed doors. England would be doing everyone else a huge favour by hosting it, to most it's a burden - similar to London rescuing the 1908 and 1948 Olympics.
7 years, too late, though. I'm thankful for the years from 2006 to 2014 though (and for still reaching the semi-finals in 2016) but he should've retired after winning the World Cup 2014 and let his Assistant Hansi Flick follow him. Bet we hadn't had such a disastrous 2018 campaign. Anyway, good that he's spoken it out now and made it official (If we won't reach at least the semi-finals at the Euros he would be out anyway, but so it looks a bit better for him to make it already official) My dream as our new Bundestrainer would still be Jürgen Klopp. Maybe when he loses some more home matches at Anfield they let him go then or even fire him. Wouldn't tarnish his reputation in Germany. edit: Just voted in the actual Kicker.de poll " Löws announced resignation - the right decision?" Seems I'm actually not the only one who welcomes the decision
I sold all my tickets and I sincerely hope the tournament is scrapped. The players need a rest before the WC qualifiers and the whole mayhem that is going to happen of sorting games so that they can play a World Cup in November (which is just 20 months away, guys!). Props on Norway for wanting to boycott the tournament (in fairness, no one would've battered an eyelid if they didn't have Haaland) but I doubt it will be backed by the big nations. Money is what got Qatar this tournament and they've been spending loads in Western Europe for a while now (especially at PSG & Bayern) and it's too late to back down.
No International fans at the Olympics. Suspect the same will happen for the Euros with fans from just that country a game is played in allowed to go. That's if they keep with this idea of having it across Europe despite the fact most of it seems to be going into lockdown again.
I doubt any country will be in lockdown by June. It's working very well in the UK and I reckon things should reopen in April while we were supposed to implement one last week but decided to have a lockdown outdoors (I know, genius). Again, I really wish this tournament is scrapped. Makes no sense having the players travelling all this way with no fans. Places like Baku have been counting on this tournament to bolster tourism. How do they expect to do that with no fans? This tournament should take place in 3 years...
What would happen to Germany hosting it in 2024 ? They just get the Euros after that ? UK has done a great job with the vaccine but other European countries are struggling to get going it seems. I wonder if they will just have fans from that country hosting a game rather than allow fans to travel across Europe.
