I can't help feeling Benitez only wants him as a dig at SAF.

It always comes down to Rafa with some of you ppl doesn't it, I suppose it's got nothing to do with the fact that Tevez is a class act, scores some important goals and works extremely hard for his team??

Personally I think he would form a superb partnership with Gerrard and Torres up front and maybe add something different to our team, possibly something we've been missing this season.

    Who trod on your tail?

I was merely suggesting that it seemed out of character to table such a massive financial offer. Maybe there is an ulterior motive?

No one really knows what the offer will be if there's to be one at all but I think Rafa realises that he can't go through another season with just Torres as our main striker.

I think Rafa is taking advantage of the negativity coming from Utd about signing Tevez and stepping in with a bid of his own possibly.

How has Tevez become a player worth over 20 million? He's a good player granted, but 20M+ worth. If either Man Utd or Liverpool spend that on him then the world is crazy. You can get better players cheaper than that surely? Surely the likes of Santa Cruz have to be more highly rated than Tevez?

Santa Cruz has scored 6 goals all season and has been injured for most of it so I wouldn't rate him higher than Tevez.

Where's this money coming from to fund a transfer of this magnitude then, moreso £160k a week.

Do you pay Torres that much? Gerrard?

We don't pay anyone close to that and have a higher overall wage bill than Liverpool.

If you can pay that then fair play to you, you've obviously enticed the oil barons along the road from City of Manchester.

    Load of rubbish.

He's in double figures overall this season and would be a superb signing at the right price!

He won't be paid anywhere near that amount if he goes, more like 80-90k I'd say.

I "think" Torres is on about £90,000 a week and Gerrard £100,000+

I agree, it's a non-starter, we wouldn't pay Tevez £160,000 a week, that's for certain. If we did and I were Torres or Gerrard, I'd be hammering the managers door down. Tevez, good player he is, isn't of the class of those two.

No way! We might go for him and might even get him but not a chance were paying him £160,000 a week would have to give the rest of the team a pay rise as they wouldnt like to see this.

Don't think its all a load of shit, just the figures are, which are way too high. Would love to see Tevez in a Liverpool shirt though but not on that sort of wage nor at the expense of a player like Alonso.

If Rafa believes Tavez is the player to improve our squad , so be it. In Rafa I trust. If Rafa is forcing Fergys hand to pay top dollar for Tavez, good on him.

Tevez's fee can't rise at United. It was set at a £10 million loan fee and £22 million to sign him permanently.

When that deal was signed the economy was booming, it sounds to me as if Gill recognises United can't afford such a deal but there's no place for flexibility in his contract.

The only thing United can do is request a negotiation, but as Ferguson said they're not dealing with a club so it's near impossible to do especially with a contract in place.

With us, there is no set fee therefore Tevez will go to the highest bidder provided United don't agree the fee. Remember they'll have first-option on him too, so we have to wait until United have declared what they're going to do before we can make our move.

160K a week? No chance; good player but that's just ridiculous.

These days, I'm afraid that is the type of wages you are looking at paying to get a top player. If Liverpool/Manyoo don't pay it then Real probably will.

He won't be on that. I don't think Tevez is that sort of player, he wants to play for the enjoyment rather than the money. If they get him for £70/80k a week he will be good but not for £26m, maybe £20m at most. I think Rafa would rather spend £15m on two player's rather than all their money on one.

    Or Man City.

How much is Robinho on? Something similar to this isn't he?

Fergy tried to get the signing on fee reduced from £22M to £15M, due to the credit crunch. With Rafa showing interest, Fergy's case is void. The owners now do not need to take a reduced £15M. The big problem for Fergy is how much he wants Tevez, or put it another way, how much he doesn't want LFC to sign Tervez. Mind games by Rafa !
