Any ideas? I'm 25 and have (finally!) passed my test last Monday. Anyone have any reccomendations on which cars are quite cheapish to insure? Not 100 per cent sure what to put down as annual mileage.
What's your budget (for insurance)? Or do you just want the cheapest-to-insure car you can get? And I don't think annual mileage makes too much of a difference to your quote (within reason). I used to put 2k and now I just put 10k, I normally do about 12k. If you need to claim and you're quite a long way off with your mileage your claim will get rejected.
Insurance companies don't like risk and they don't like paying out for expensive parts. So small, low powered, base model mainstream cars are the cheapest to insure. Corsas, Fiestas, Peugeot 106s and the like will all be at the lower end of the insurance rip-off scale. On top of that post code, annual mileage and where the vehicle is kept will be factors.
It does make a difference about mileage, because the more you are on the road, or say your on the road, the more chance there is you will be involved in a accident or make a claim.
Thank you Einstein, I'm aware of why they ask. My point was lying about your mileage doesn't save you enough to make jeopardising a claim altogether worthwhile. Get it?
Anything group 1 insurance (i know a yaris is group1) but where you live will have a big factor on price.
Age is the main factor. Jay on here pays more to insure a 1.1 than I do a 1.7, just because I'm 2 years older, despite him having more no claims.
Jesus That takes the pi$$!! My first car was an XR2i when I was 18 and that was £1,400 fully comp to Insure with Tesco back in 2003 (when Insurance premiums were not so high). Petrol was around 86p a litre back then as well.
Read an article a while back that insurance in areas such as Bradford, Southall and Luton was much higher than average because of dodgy whiplash claims.
Corsa could be good for you... ... have a Google for "insurance group 1 cars" or "insurance group 2 cars". http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/insurance/car-insurance-groups/?ig=1 http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/insurance/car-insurance-groups/?ig=2 Also - put one of your parents on the policy as a named driver - it'll bring the price down.
