Do or die time methinks. If he can't stay fit to bowl four overs then he needs to seriously think about hanging up his gloves.. Few changes from the team that won it two years ago ( is it ready that long ago already?). I like the look of the top order of Jos, Salt, Jacks and YJB. Should be some.runs coming from that four and the middle order doesn't look too shabby..
Smudger misses out, he’ll be on Nine9 news tonight crying his bloody eyes out again. Australia squad: Mitchell Marsh (c), Ashton Agar, Pat Cummins, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade, David Warner, Adam Zampa
Tough news on Matthew Short missing out on the cut. He’s been the best player (or MVP in US and Australian parlance) in the BBL these last two years.
no beeb HYS but some articles including one were Robert "The Don" Key is suggesting Test selection "case" may be pushed at the T20 World Cup!! Archer just reminds me of Jones in as much as great on occasion for England but injured and thereafter nonentity (more or less for Archer) Jofra Archer returns to England squad for T20 World Cup in June - BBC Sport Jos Buttler (capt, wk) 33 Phil Salt 27 Will Jacks 25 Jonny Bairstow 34 Ben Duckett 29 Harry Brook 25 Liam Livingstone 30 Moeen Ali 36 Sam Curran 25 Chris Jordan 35 Adil Rashid 36 Tom Hartley 24 Mark Wood 34 Jofra Archer 29 Reece Topley 30 Struck me initially as a bit batting heavy, certainly FIVE players contenders to open, but looks a bit more balanced in some ways on sorting into some kind of logical (batting) order, not saying they'd bat in that order but top order batsmen, propper all-roundies come bits n piecies and then bowlers. I could stick Livingstone in the all-roundies but doesn't really matter, I'm sure they'll use 6-7 bowlers in most games anyway. Would love to see Jordan, becoming an up and down bowler and why not so much used in ODIs anymore, put out to pasture but could say same of a number of them as "10 survivors from 2022" doesn't really cover their ages - will whack in ages if I can as my lunch concludes very soon - wiki page has them so quite quick bracket by age so 33+, 28-32 and 27 or under that gives you SIX 33 or older, 4 in the middle age bracket 28-32 and 5 aged 24-27 so two thirds are 28+, surely must be last 'go' for most of them and I'd prefer they gave a few younger players a chance in this format as I'd suggest minimal gain keeping the old duffers in so long, unless they are exceptional, over younger talent that may not succeed but equally the old duffers hardly won the 50 over version and no real lessons learned even if this shortest format might paper over the chasms
Just 20 years old - very sad . No age at all . Josh Baker: Worcestershire spin bowler dies, aged 20 - BBC Sport
far the better and more interesting game, 9+ rpo a side can be quite tedious, bit more interest when runs are harder to come by in any format hate the six counter nonsense, as if cricket is all about hitting sixes I see Corey Anderson is now a proud YANK! (if there is such a thing) I hate it when players can play international cricket for two different countries, even if they qualify the ICC should rule ineligible unless exceptional circumstances, enough mercs in non-Test nations as it is Was trying to think of another instance, another Anderson as it happens, Cummins who played for windies and Canada. Ireland were bad for their mercs, and looking at the Holland WC side they had a bundle of ex-pats - Edwards Tonga/AUS, Ackerman SAF, Barresi SAF, Nidamanuru IND, O'Dowd NZL, Singh IND, Van Beek NZL, Van Der Merwe SAF all it really proves is a team born and some if not all raised in cricket in a Test playing country are going to trump teams that are born outside and play cricket outside of a Test playing country, not sure long term it does them any favours just gets them a day in the sun with the big boys to get blown away most of the time and maybe qualify next time, maybe not. without a flow of players and a good infrastructure it's stop gap
GT smashing CSK all over the place with Gill hitting a century of 50 balls, And now Sudharsan gets his century from from 50 balls as well. Current score is 209-0 from 17 overs.
Jimmy Anderson is going to retire from test cricket at the end of the summer Wonder if his last test will be the first test against Sri Lanka at Old Trafford.
Doesn't sound like it's entirely voluntary if the reports are to be believed, but it had to happen sooner or later. It's been an absolute joy to watch his craft for so long.
Anderson has been a fantastic bowler, almost unplayable at times, but he should have retired a year ago. That Ashes series last year was painful to watch..
He was obviously just going for the 700 wickets but yeah you're right he should've retired earlier. Absolute legend though, he will be missed.
Can understand why he wanted to get 700 and also not retire after a series away from home but it has been a bit of a struggle watching him get there. In the right conditions in England he is still arguably our most dangerous bowler even pushing 42. A true legend of the game. Will another fast bowler ever get close to 700 wickets?
Even though he's actually a few months older than me, it feels somewhat strange to be contemplating James Anderson as a soon-to-be former England player. But as much as I recognise it is a necessary step to build a stronger England team for the future, it is still a sad day. Maybe he should have walked off into the sunset with his great mate Stuart Broad last summer but that doesn't matter now. At Lord's in July we will bid farewell to not simply one of the greatest English cricketers of all time, with a record that is unlikely ever to be equalled, but quite possibly one of the greatest competitors that these islands have produced in any sport. Go well, Jimmy. Go well.
Great fightback from Glamorgan against promotion favourites Sussex today, at one stage we were 41/4, yet managed to post over 400, which is over a 100 run lead too. There's some weather about tomorrow and Monday so i'm still expecting a draw but stranger things have happened.
