It wouldnt surprise me, the officiating in this country is the absolute pits these days. Think half of them are on a wind up or have a competition to see who can cause the most outrage
The problem is, nothing ever seems to be done about it. Sometimes after a shocking performance, they are demoted to the Championship for a week but that's not as a "punishment" as such, it's more to let the heat die down and then return them to the PL the week after. If the average worker performed so badly week in, week out at work then they'd likely go onto some sort of performance review which would probably include some form of training to try and fix where they are going wrong. Officiating in England, particularly at the top level, is in a cycle of absolute shit right now. And the fact that these are all full time pros with their sole focus on officiating makes it all the worse - it wasn't this bad when they were part time and turning up to matches having done an 8 hour shift at their actual job beforehand
Anthony Taylor probably said Young played the ball and they went along with it maybe because the VAR didn’t want to overturn a big name official. Which definitely does happen as Mike Dean admitted.
The response when he shows up like the basketball ref in Little Nicky this weekend is going to be great.
Which makes the decision to appoint Stuart Attwell on Sunday, knowing his allegiances, all the more extraordinary. Leaving aside the grievances Forest already had with officials following the incident in the Liverpool game, taking the risk of a controversy like this blowing up in their faces when they didn't have to is just plain daft.
I never even knew Stuart Attwell was a Luton fan, however do we all remember when he gave a ghost goal against Watford all those years ago? I don't remember this ever being brought up at the time which was a surprise to me when I found out.
I don't think it was from memory and I certainly didn't know about Attwell's allegiances until last week. But, on the basis that those who appointed him did know, it just seems utterly ludicrous to put him or any other official in that kind of position.
Sounds a bit dreary and tired ! There is another chap speaking too . The ref just seems to take their word for it rather than asking if Young gets the ball .
