What's annoyed me is the reaction of the player. She's changed her tune and is now laying into him but she initially came out and said...
Sounds like he is going to. Got the impression that the guy wasn't very popular anyway and not really acted in the way a man in his position should before too. Like you say not sure it needed to be made into such a big thing - maybe a quick apology? They've just spent half an hour on it listening to 5live - you'd think he had literally grabbed her for no reason and shoved his face onto her lips against a wall or something. Like you see on the soaps sometimes!
Exactly. Just another thing blown way out of proportion in today's cancel culture. If there was/is pattern with his behaviour then fair enough, but piling on him for a split second moment of joy that appeared to be mutual just sums up the modern world. I haven't looked but I imagine that hideous creature Megan Rapinoe's probably stuck her beak in as well.
I read that he made an apology later but first he called them morons. Seems that decent behaviour is not his "thing". After the final whistle he was seen in the VIP stands next to the Spanish Queen, celebrating and grabbing his crotch. El Machismo
I’m not sure about the kiss itself, but she has in regards to controversy surrounding the Spanish women’s team because of course she would.
Cancel culture doesnt exist just culture. Anyone defending on what he did speaks volumes for their character.
Imagine my surprise... https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/megan-rapinoe-spain-rubiales-worldcup-30766745 Megan Rapinoe slams Spain FA chief Luis Rubiales after Women's World Cup Final actions The Spanish FA president has come under immense scrutiny after kissing a player on the lips following Spain's 1-0 victory over England in the Women's World Cup Megan Rapinoe has claimed that a "deep level of misogyny and sexism" runs through the Spanish FA following the actions of its president, Luis Rubiales, during the Women’s World Cup final.
Does this speak volumes about the character of the woman he kissed then? I really thought we wouldn't have to hear from her again. Hopefully she doesn't get an offer from Sky or BBC to do punditry.
Apparently the President of the Spanish FA was due to go on stage and announce his resignation this morning, only to take the microphone and tell everyone he's going nowhere and he's going to sue everyone
There's no way he actually Wolf of Wall Streeted it? Did he shout into the mic whilst holding his crotch, do a mic drop and run around snogging everyone in the room?
Well the idiot won't do the right thing so the Spanish team won't play again whilst he's still there.
The mother of Spanish football federation president Luis Rubiales has gone on a hunger strike because of the "inhuman hunt" against her son. There has been widespread criticism of Rubiales, 46, after he kissed forward Jenni Hermoso on the lips following Spain's Women's World Cup final win. His mother, Angeles Bejar, has now locked herself in a church in Motril. She told Spanish news agency EFE the strike would continue "indefinite, day and night". Hermoso, 33, said the kiss during the presentation ceremony in Sydney on 20 August was not consensual. Rubiales vowed not to resign on Friday but was suspended by world football's governing body Fifa on Saturday. Spanish media have gathered outside the Divina Pastora church in Motril on the southern Spanish coast, the town where Rubiales was raised. Bejar told EFE that the "inhuman and bloody hunt that they are doing with my son is something he does not deserve". Rubiales' cousin Vanessa Ruiz, who acts as a family spokesperson in Motril, said: "We are suffering a lot for him. He has been judged before his time. "They (media) don't stop harassing us. We had to leave our house. We want them to leave us alone and for Jenni to tell the truth. It's not fair." The Spanish government has asked for Spain's Sports Tribunal (TAD) to suspend Rubiales, a request which will be discussed at a TAD meeting on Monday. The Spanish football federation (RFEF) has also called regional federations to an "extraordinary and urgent" meeting on Monday "to evaluate the situation in which the federation finds itself". When it announced it had suspended Rubiales on Saturday, Fifa ordered him, the RFEF and its officials and employees not to attempt to contact Hermoso, who the RFEF had threatened with legal action earlier that day. That was alright. When arriving, I learned that New Zealand had been knocked out of the competition and the Australians could go the same way if they didn't beat Canada. Thankfully, things went their way as they tonked a very shit side 4-0. Top of the group, Nigeria (probably the most one-to-watch of the tournament) to play England in the 1st KO stage. Attended my first in the "small" Sydney ground as we disposed of Panama 6-3 (what a goal the opening goal was). Very worrying performance at the back but very goal-happy upfront. Nothing groundbreaking. Still the stage was set for the quarter vs Australia in Brisbane. Saw two games in Melbourne which were Sweden/USA (what a game from the Zlatan goalie, stopped everything). Watching the Americans gettinkg knocked out so early was fun especially since so many made the trip West and were expecting their team to be in the final (saw jerseys/kits until I left a couple of days ago). This was followed by the rather tepid Colombia/Jamaica 2 days later. A 0-0 game that just happened to have a goal in it. Onto Brisbane for Australia/France. What I was expecting would happen happened. One of 50-odd Frenchman at the ground which we are used to at World Cups. Decent watch between sides that refuse to get knocked out. Never heard of the Oz keeper but yeah she is pretty good. What to say about our elimination then? Same as always, bow out as soon as the going gets tough. Wouldn't say Australia deserved to progress as it was a draw kind of game but you just knew we'd end up short as we're just that type of team and the co-hosts had the gods with them. Last word on France: we owe Morocco a big favour as I don't think we would've knocked out Germany in the 1st KO stage game so things could have been worse. The semi in Sydney was fabulous game. Not on a par with USA/England 4 years ago but still very good. Toone's goal in the 1st half, Kerr's equaliser, Hemp's pass on England's 3rd... A champion's performance vs England. Too bad Sarina couldn't get her tactics right vs Spain and their tiki taka. Spain were dominant and deserved that win no question. Just like everyone, what a shame we are talking about Rubiales rather than praising the Spaniards on a much-deserved World Cup win. Rubiales really isn't a smart dude is he? If there was one moment where he could the girls to go and do one and support Vilda as he had just wont he WC with a group of players that didn't like him that was it. But no, he had to forcefully kiss Hermoso and now he's facing an Ayers Rock of criticism until he ultimately resigns. Fun tournament. I hope the Americans host the next one!
