As a kid I enjoyed NES games like Contra, Spartan, Double Dragon, Street Fighter, TMNT, etc, beyond the usual suspects. I was heavy into strategy games on the computer. Games like Age of Empires, Rome TW, and my personal favourite the Commandos series. From time to time I jumped into FPS like Halo, Project IGI or the brilliant Half Life. I had a brief stint with PS2, playing games like Resident Evil 4, Bully, San Andreas. Though nobody came close to the perfection that was Shadow of Colossus.
Commandos was frustrating at times. Failing a mission because the location you have to put the lure isn't within the 1mm location that it will work.
On this very date, 30 years ago, DOOM was released. Probably my first serious addiction in gaming, and to this day the only game I've ever played that gave me goosebumps and occasionally scared me shitless!
Defender. I spent half my early youth in the Arcade in town on this b@stard ,routinely got the top score and I eventually got used to a crowd gathering around me watching me obliterating the latest attempt of someone to beat me.
A bunch of the Castlevania games were on sale over Halloween so acquired all the NES games and SotN. I had never played SotN beyond a couple of goes at a mate's house when I was about 13, so currently.playing through it. Potentially it will end up being my favourite of the series. It is superb, and the soundtrack is as good as any other Castlevania game I have played.
