I’d say give him a go next season with us. I personally don’t think he’ll make the grade but I hope I’m proven wrong.
Ideally i would prefer Derby to be promoted and Harry to be loaned to them for another year for premiership experience.
I don’t see the point, it’s a position we could do with another option in so why not try him there? If we go out and buy that’s going to limit his chances further. He’s 22 now so he’s either ready or not.
There is a huge huge gap in quality between the championship and the premier league. If they do well im the championship it doesn’t mean they will do well in the prem. Far from it, as we’ve found out.
Yea I know what you mean but I would like him to get a good run of games to see if he is suitable for sure, i cant see that happening with us. he will spend most of the time on the bench.
Well yes I understand that, this is why it’s so hard for youngsters to establish themselves unless it’s in a vacant position. I suppose it’s a headache Klopp will have to sort.
And on the flipside you get players like Harry Kane who didn't look anything like the player he become when he was a youngster on loan to Championship and League 1 sides. You can never tell...but if you loan a player out to a Championship side, you want him to do exactly as Wilson has, smash in goals galore. The fact he's been taken the responsibility of all their free kicks and pens impresses me.
Three Premier League clubs interested in him for 25 mill. He's not good enough for our first team but he'd be a heck of an option from the bench. Looking more like he will be sold now. Perhaps Klopp reckons he could get better for that fee. He's probably right. Would be a shame though as Wilson does look to have a very bright future and I would like to have seen him given more of a chance with us.
We’ve been linked with him, but no chance I’d want him at that price. Bournemouth will probably pay it though.
How much did you pay for Ali J? Wilson is probably worth 20ish in this market so reckon we will get it.
Rather we keep him, club trained and loves the club but guessing Klopp is freeing up some funds for a marquee signing.
We got fleeced over £16m for Jahankabash However, how much we paid for the biggest dud in our history has absolutely no correlation to how much Wilson is worth. The same way Groß for £3m can’t be used to justify it the other way. Wilson has had a good; what, 18 months in the Championship? Anybody who pays £25,000,000 for a 22 year old with 0 Prem experience is taking a massive gamble. If the suggested fee was £12-15m I’d want us to be interested, 25 is insane. I’d argue wingers struggle the most with the step up from Championship to Prem too. Knockaert is a fine example of a winger who made the championship look easy but struggled with the step up. I’m sure someone pay it though so fair play when/if you get it
Be interesting to see how he steps up, doesn’t rely on pace and has been excellent against Chelsea and United. Think he’d just work even better with better team mates, I wouldn’t pay £25 million for him if I were another club but I’d rather him have a chance here to flourish than sell him for that now.
It's taken over a decade for Newcastle to finally break our transfer record of 17mill we paid for Owen (from pre-Ashley). No way I see us paying that sort of money for an unproven prospect.
Agreed, wouldn't say he's unproven and he's done brilliantly at Wales, Hull & Derby but Newcastle certainly aren't going to spend that kind of money on him.
I just mean unproven as regards the top flight. He may be great in years to come but we can't spend fortunes in a maybe.
As @Muller has already said, it looks like Klopp will take another look at Wilson this preseason before making a final judgement on him. Really would like to see him given the chance especially since there seems no debate about Brewster being a first-team option next year. It would also make sense if Liverpool aren't going to be bringing many in this window either.
