Would deffo keep him ahead of Woodburn and Kent. By no means the finished article, but the lad can score, he can score crackers too and is an excellent free kick taker. Will get better imo, whereas I dont see Woodburn or Kent progressing any further.
I watched him a lot last season, and yes his free kicks are good but I didn’t see much in his play to think he’d make it with us. For me he’s almost but not quite.
I'd give him another season or so, if players haven't upped their game by the time they reach say 23/24 you can pretty much say thats their ceiling (unless they're a goalie perhaps). He oozes confidence which is huge, I personally think he'll improve. No way to an absolute first team starter, but decent back up and someone to bring in for the cup games, etc. Play him in every League Cup game we play this season and maybe easy FA Cup/CL games and see how he gets on.
Reading between the lines it looks to me like Klopp is happy to sell him. “We are in constant conversation, that's clear,” said the Reds boss. “We have to do the right thing for us and for the boy. That's how it is." “It's nothing to talk in public about it, so we will see what happens in the next eight or nine days until the window closes."
I dunno, I'm just getting bad vibes about it if I'm honest. They know best of course, but this will hurt more than Suso was if we were to let him go.
I would hope that we keep him and give him a chance to prove his worth this season, but if not, I'd rather a loan deal to a Premiership team then we can judge properly. I just don't like the idea that we will sell him for 20 million, then for him to become a good player, it'll seem a steal and we've threw a talent away. Poor lad hasn't really had a chance to show his worth to us in our team, but only in the Championship.
