America is where the future of football will be, thats where all the money and demand is. Like the above poster stated, it's inevitable. Plus I believe the younger fanbase won't really care about it either its a completely different mindset they havem towards this sort of thing. I see a much bigger world club championship taking over witht he MLS heavily involved and also a possible other domestic tournament with the european league clubs and the MLS clubs.
This assumes that Americans are somehow going to abandon their own traditional sports like baseball, gridiron and basketball to get behind football, and they aren't. It's not like America has been unaware of the World game, they hosted the World Cup 30 years ago but still "soccer" isn't in their top 3 sports, and they're about to (co)host the World Cup again in '26, after which 'our' game still won't be 'their' game.
If anything does happen it’ll be a slow process over time. Football has its value because it’s a global game, it’s not suddenly all going to get focused on one country. A lot of really bad takes in this thread.
trump will deport all the "sahkah" loving residents of the USA (right after they vote him in) America will never acknowledge football as anything but a rich kids sport. the fees they pay for kids to play is unreal. I know a man who moved with his wife to USA. I know here better but he basically got fired out of every job he had but did football coaching as a volunteer and got a badge. over there? 30,000 a year to coach. it's unreal what they will pay as its for rich kids.
I really don’t want to get promoted back to this shithole. On the other hand I don’t want us to lose games. Dilemma!
The future eh ? Run by franchises with no promotions or relegations , sounds rather like a closed shop to me . How many Premier League clubs are now US owned , is it more than half ?
Why do they have to abandon them? The money and crowds are there, they can easily get 80,000+ for big international games and theres huge sums of money involved too, thats why the NFL tour the world. Theres actually quite a sway towards eventually having promotion/Relegation in the MLS. But thats all irrelevant really with the global league/cups that will happen and the yanks have the money and will to make american clubs the biggest and best. Plus the lifestyle for top players will be a huge incentive.
the fans over there have voted with their feet. there's a massive following for college sports due to the franchise nature of sport there. basketball and football are absolutely massive massive events when they play. I drove by mitchigan state stadium 75k stadium for colleges football. and the wolverines one was over 100k. the nhl franchise system is just the tip of the iceberg. long time since I was there mind, but to think half the premier league play in less than 40k. they wouldn't even be allowed to be considered for the nfl franchises.
Not really sure we're on the same wavelenght. I mentioned the NFL as an example of liquid sports are nowadays, how small the world is. To get top european teams competing in the sates will be a huge money spinner and the MLS want to compete with the european teams, theres massive demand and massive interest and massive money involved to get it to happen, it will happen.
Maybe so, i was just commenting on how big relatively NFL is in terms of size and below the line how big the feeder system is so theres absolutely massive money in it. to get a slice of that is tough and I don't think we are seeing mls owners making a big splash in europe. The american owners seem to be form other sports Boehley is in baseball and basketball. FSG are baseball and seeping into other us sports now. Kreonky is about the only one? I think the MLS might want a slice but bringing european glammer games to the USA would be competing with MLS as much as anything. I think honestly the middle east will be the destination for these games.
Because there are only so many hours in a day, and only so much disposable income for potential ticket buyers.
Will these New Global Leagues be Soccer Leagues & not Football ? I'm glad I support a tinpot team where this will be irrelevant .
Definitely soccer...as americans will rightly point out it was the brits who first coined the phrase so stop blaming Americans..LOL. I only hope for clubs like yours that there's enough money to survive.
Why, do they have more hours in the day over in the USA? And unlimited finances? As I said it's 30 years since they had the World Cup, but still they prefer their own sports.
I don't really understand why you think that it has to be number one sport to generate huge sums. Look at sports less popular than soccer in the states, the sums of money are eye watering. Not sure what hours in the day has to do with it either, they've had a league for decades thats grown every year. You think they have to work around other sports in the daytime????? And yes pretty much unlimited finances especially if they get the europeans on board which is what they're working on.
