He's not the sexy manager that some might have wanted but I liked the look of him when Spurs were looking at him last summer and he's kept at a similar level to back then. I suspect we'll see some big outgoings in the Liverpool squad and Slot should have a good chance of stamping his style on a younger squad.
Can't remember who posted it, but most recent winners of the Eredivisie are Ten Haag, van Bronckhorst, van Gaal, Philip Cocu and Schteve McLaren. All of whom went on to have stellar managerial careers after leaving the Netherlands. Edit: I forgot de Boer... suspect Palace fans haven't.
If Xabi came in then Liverpool would be able to continue on without much of a set back imo. Anyone else coming in, I can see some big outgoings and a mini rebuild happening.
Not really, despite the poor end to the season we still have a cracking squad, plenty of really good young players too, so no worries about the age of the squad. Think we need to beef up the midfield a bit, I like Endo, but I think we need an upgrade and use Endo as a squad player. IMO of the star players I think Salah will be leaving, thats about all in truth.
Worth remembering it's a new manager and a new football operations team with Edwards/Hughes. They'll obviously have their ideas but they've approached a manager seemingly on the grounds he has a similar outlook to Klopp re tactics. So the squad shouldn't need much meddling with, outgoings permitting.
I've never really bought this in truth, to me, each manager is himself, what other Dutch managers have done in the past has absolutely no bearing on what he will do or not.
Oh I completely agree, it's just recent history suggests that managers who have been successful in the Netherlands struggle to translate that into success in other countries.
It is a weird phenomenon. It's not just the winners either. Peter Bosz was sacked within 5 months at Dortmund and Lyon. Alfred Schreuder was moved on after just a season by Hoffenheim. Van Bommel lasted 5 months at Wolfsburg.
It's easy to get carried away when you see a manager from the Netherlands with a good record, but in reality the Dutch league is terrible so it's not a huge surprise when they're not up to PL standard, Shirley? I was excited about de Boer as he did a brilliant job at Ajax and is obviously a huge name, but he was absolutely clueless. We looked more convincing under Ian Holloway.
I think this season showed a lot of cracks in the squad. When Salah isn't scoring, who is your go to guy? You will need a striker, Nunez is not leading a team and VvD is declining as well as Robertson. I don't think you drop out of a top four race unless the new manager really is over his head but you really need to hit on the transfers this summer.
