He's got 20 and been injured a fair amount tbf. But when he's fit, he's the obvious first choice. Liverpool on the other hand have a decision to make whether they play Jota, who is a better finisher (read better player) than Nunez, but can't be relied on for fitness, or make Darwin the main man regardless but can he be relied on to finish his chances? He's got everything except that clinical finish.
And that's a fair shout. A lot will depend on how Slot plays his midfield 3 I suppose. I don't really know how he'll set up or how flexible he'll likely be with your current crop. You certainly lack an element of bite and energy in the midfield that was in your best side, but I think that's something you had across all 3 mids rather than a solitary person. A reason as to why you ship more goals this season perhaps. I don't really know who there is out there to play that role that's feasible and worth it either tbh.
Honestly I don't think lfc have seen he best of nunez at all as he is a monster header of the ball and we simply don't play to it. We lunp it forward now aimlessly but genuine crossing for headers just is not our thing really. The assumption slot will play klopp style is also odd to my.mind as he might share style in pressing but he is not necessarily going to go play a 433. My view is thst the players don't put themselves about enough and don't die to get to that 50/50. A lot of what I see now is faux pressing where someone jogs up to an opponent or maybe get close but doesn't actually put a foot in, we then get played around easily. Most of all though.mane and salah in their prime were genuinely quick. Diaz, gakpo, salah? Just are not. So yeah get a midfielder who can get about but we need to add pace to the attack and aggression to what we are doing.
Center back is by far the biggest priority for me. Matip is off. VVD is aging. Quansah is still too green. Konate is good but not particularly reliable.
Imo if lfc want to seriously win things then CB 6 RW Alll first teamers We just don't know what formation slot will start with. I thought klopp would go 4231 way back when he arrived and he went 433 We need to figure out if we can get more out of szoboszlai further up as he's not really a cm. We need to figure out what to do with trent. We need to see want other first team players want to move on.
He was always a stop gap signing. He's gone off the boil for me recently but Klopp keeps starting him. A proper top DM is a must for any progressive football side, you need to protect your backline.
Imo endo has also blown up after the long trip to South Korea in last international break. He's basically showed why nobody's gone for him before. He was fine for a while after getting into the team bit stamina is lacking. Given he's also quite slow and macca is not exactly fast as well and they both look very sluggish amd over played. A good partner for macca is 100% needed. We need to figure out what to do with szoboszlai and gravenberch too as there is 100mil of investment in two very good young players while we have Jones and Elliott who imo are not half the players but are very similar too. Are they slot players? I don't know. Are they all klopp players, frankly I'm not so sure about them there either. Yes. After the utd qf they all went off on internationals, most didn't mind themselves and they have been stinking since. They've had to go to the well time and time again due to being soft and easy to score against and we've basically run out of energy and have not in any way recovered it. Right now the legends game where kvarme was 50 and ajax has an oap on the Park would compete with the walking football we are seeing. In the first half klopp was waving his hands about as trent and macca exchanged about 6 passes from 2 yards away from each other and then right after diaz showboated a flcik when a simple pa's would do. Zero movement to get a pass, zero real intent to go win really. At least he still got a response after half time.
Agreed, which is quite strange for this Liverpool team, and the Salah thing yesterday seemed off too. I won't pretend to know what Slot likes to do, so I have no idea how many players will actually put up an effort as they need to fight for their position next season.
I dunno you know, we did the same last season, seems to be the same kind of thing, burnt out mixed with lack of ideas. Injuries took their toll this season Id say, last season was probably the mental exhaustion from the previous season having missed out on the last two legs of a quad, maybe similar this seaosn in truth as it all started when United knocked us out of the FA Cup.
Don't agree - just the eye test I see a drop off from the top 2 to Liverpool. Then another one to Villa, and then quite a sizeable one to everyone else. I don't think 3rd is a bad performance for this Liverpool team, it's exacerbated by the cup losses. And really if Klopp was staying you could see this being a Launchpad but it's normal to think you will take a step back next year.
Yeah of course that's the case now but I think KK was talking about the general season and before Liverpool fell of a cliff. We was top of the league, title was in our hands, best GD for large part of the season, think we was the highest goalscorers out the top 5 leagues too? Then we hit a complete brick wall when a lot of injured players started coming back which didn't make sense because logically you would think getting star players back would strengthen you but it seemed to have opposite impact. We was more than on same level as other two before drop off now we look like a struggling mid-table team that can't buy a win.
It's not just about injured players. Endo and macallister look like they are playing in an over 50s walking league. The midfield absolutely blew up post international break
No, I felt this all season even when you were top- I just didn't think you would ever win it. It's irrelevant now anyway, I think the point I'm making in a round about way is it's not a bad league campaign from Klopp,, it's the capitulation in 2 cups that is the bigger surprise / disappointment.
The cup was down to Elliott being a total idiot on tje edge of a box with nobody behind him. All he had to do was head it back in and it goes to pens. Same for nunez running across the park in his own half and passing blind. That's not capitulation that's idiots being idiots. Atlanta was capitulation. But again tsimikas was stood beside the man that crossed for the first goal and he ran off him to press a man he could never have gone near. Robertson then repressed the trick madding second half after tsimikas was hauled off in disgrace. Yes they were very poor amd shocks. Lfc should be in the euopa league final. Absolutely zero excuse but they were self inflicted
As every discernible Liverpool fan will no doubt tell you, we're not just losing a manager here ,we're losing arguably the finest in World football and a man who wears his heart firmly on his sleeve in regards to the teams he's managed. That said ,I have reservations that he's being allowed to leave without the whole of Liverpool giving him the send off he so richly deserves. I'd just love to see the City Center decked in a sea of red of flags and the whole football world to witness how different our support is. I can only imagine the hysteria it would cause with rival fans complete bemusement as to why this was taking place. It will just be a way of magnifying what makes our support so completely different to others. I think what escapes the mindset of other fans is that this celebration would be solely about the man and what he's brought to this football club ,it matters not a f*cking jot what he's won this season ,it's the indelible mark he's left on Kopites and the long suffering away lads. Arne Slot has colossal shoes to fill and to be fair any manager would ,even Xabi's sphincter rightly quivered at the mammoth task of replacing an absolute legend. However I will say I'm pleased it's a completely left field choice that the team tasked with such a frankly thankless job have chosen. It's a brand new start for Slot and frankly I cant wait to see that big bald head on the touchline glistening in the summer sun of Anfield. New beginnings and the very audible support of a section of the ground that can turn managers into Kings if they let them in. Good luck Arne you big beautiful bald b@stard
