Newport fans must be buzzing but fuming at the same time All these performances in the cup and not even threatening the play offs. Odd.
They've been poor in the League for a while after a fantastic start. Great win for us tonight, albeit it sounds like we had a lot of luck - 5 disallowed goals (3 for Yeovil, and two of which looked very harsh decision) and red for one of their best players. I've seen the red, I think it's harsh but can see why it was given. 8 points clear of relegation now and we're looking up again.
Team visiting Cheltenham gets a harsh red card for an important player after 20 minutes and loses...sounds familiar... 8 points and a game in hand clear; with your very winnable home games (and apparent "home advantage" ha!) that should see you safe.
With victory over a poor Newport who were obviously focused on the FA Cup and rightly so for the money and it worked! We finally moved into the top half for the first time since Dec 17, forgot what it felt like!
Having seen the red again, I don't think Tom James has a leg to stand on in fairness. He's off the ground with both feet, misses the ball completely, if he's a few inches back he's committing a possible leg-breaker.
I hadn't set off coz I wasn't coming. I've broken the regular away day habit this season but would have come for this one if the journey didn't look so dodgy with the weather. Disappointed that I'll miss the re-arranged fixture (unless the weather intervenes again). My excuse for 19/2 is wife related but more heroic - I have to pick her up from Heathrow after a Mexican adventure that looks too adventurous for my ageing bones.
Macclesfield looked far from a side battling relegation at Field Mill on Saturday. They were genuinely one of the better sides I have seen us against this season, they tried to play football instead of lumping it forward and they carved us open a few times. They were unfortunate not to come away with a point, I think it was the combination of terrible finishing and equally terrible marking from set plays. We scored 2 from corners, I can count on one hand the amount of times that has happened in 2 years previous! I think they'll have enough to get out of it in the long run. It'll be very interesting down at the bottom now that County have recruited well in the last few days of January. Last night's win for Cheltenham gives them a bit of a buffer, but not completely out of it yet. Port Vale have got some interesting games lined up now, Cambridge A, Morecambe H, Cheltenham A, Notts A, Stags H, Yeovil H. Stags being the only side that aren't in the bottom 7! I've just got a sneaky feeling they'll be right in the thick of it come that Yeovil game.
I agree that Macc will not go down. They were excellent against us a few games ago, seen much worse sides than them this season.
Macclesfield were robbed against us. Their best player (Cameron) was sent off in a very harsh decision and they lost two attacking players to injury in the first half. We were 2-0 down at half-time despite everything going for us. 2nd half we battered them and eventually wore them down. Had Cameron not been sent off (the red was rescinded a few days later) they would have beaten us, no doubt about it.
Can everyone stop saying we won't go down! If we had our first choice team fully fit for the rest of the season then I'd probably agree with you, but we've just had one of those seasons plagued by injuries and late goals conceded, with some refereeing going against us, that dooms teams. Last year everyone kept going well and we won the league; this year has been the opposite. Got tough games coming up that we might well play well in but come away with nothing each time.
Saddened to see Notts County struggling. Have several Notts fans around us & feel for them. Like Meadow Lane & occasionally go down for a game. It's looking highly unlikely they'll avoid the drop but let's hope they can bounce straight back.
Conference is a ****ing tough league to get out of. Wrexham are the prime example but more recently Orient, Hartlepool, Chesterfield and Barnet all struggling down there. Although Orient looking better this year.
To be honest, it's not giving me any pleasure to see County in such a mess. I'm not sure there will be any great escape this time around but hopefully this can be a kick up the arse for those running the club (when they're not too busy posting naughty pics on social media ) and they can sort things out to bounce back quickly. Unfortunately the National League is becoming a tougher and tougher league so I fear that they could be down there for a few seasons
Better finishing and you would have taken at least a point away from the Mill recently. You'll stay up.
Absolutely then you have the new rich clubs like Eastleigh & Salford making it even more difficult to get one of the two places to get back in the league.
