Massive news and a big setback for Sony and people who plan on buying a PS5. Immediately elevates the Xbox exclusives and makes Microsoft's offering the more appealing I'd say.
Given the extraordinary lengths Bethesda have gone to in order to ruin their reputation in recent years I can't see how this could possibly make it any worse. From a console perspective, meh, it wouldn't influence me personally.
I would be very surprised if the next gen Elder Scrolls and Fallout games, as well as Bethesda's new space-themed game they are working on are made exclusives. Microsoft will want to reclaim some of their invested money, and considering hardware doesn't make a profit in the gaming industry, there is no way will they risk losing millions in potential buys by making it xbox exclusive.
Likely just come out later on playstation I'd imagine. As shit as Bethesda are the fewer independent developers (even those as large as Bethesda) there are the worse the market will be.
It takes years to break even on consoles yeah. I think they’ll go exclusive though. They’re making a fortune on Xbox Game Pass, so they could just release all of their games on that. So whilst they won’t make much money on the extra console sales, they’ll make it on the extra Game Pass subscriptions.
Elder scrolls is something that deserves just a tad more "speed" skyrim is how old now? surely we deserve the next level game here. Its that long since i played oblivion and then skyrim that I've got OLLLDDDD. however i can't see them going exclusive as while the can optimise to their platform or release first on it, the fact is the money out there is HUGE so it cannot be left on the table. microsoft bought out minecraft when? its across platforms. the money is massive in selling games.
Minecraft released on PS4 before Microsoft bought Mojang, so it’s not quite the same. We’ll see what they do. I don’t play any Bethesda games really so it won’t affect me too much.
in the end elder scrolls is a pc game by origin so I cant see them killing a golden goose. now they might over rush it and ruin it that way but at 50 quid or 70 quid a pop a blockbuster game is as profitable as a blockbuster movie.
Managed to get myself an xbox series x ...well I have paid for one and it should be here before Christmas. They are so hard to get hold of.
That is mahooosive. Not good for PS5 owners. Like what happened after the Bethesda purchase, expect lots of bitchy comments from Sony fanboys about how Microsoft is ruining the gaming industry, whilst ignoring the fact they have been pointing and laughing at Xbox owners for years whilst shouting about exclusives like Spiderman and God Of War. Sony's entire PS business plan is based on exclusives but all of a sudden it's bad when Microsoft go down the same route. The hypocrisy is hilarious.
They likely won't make CoD and Diablo exclusive, as they are worried they will lose out on too much revenue. However, if CoD became an exclusive to PC and XBox, it alone would make the lost revenue back imo, as all the kids love it.
They absolutely will. People said the same about Elder Scrolls and Doom etc. It's already confirmed any future games on Bethesda'a library will be Gamepass only. Expect the same with Activision once the titles they're contractually obliged to complete for PlayStation are released. Do you think a company who pays £60b+ for a developer give a shit about making some extra money from Sony users? This is about getting the most people possible on Gamepass subscriptions. Very much short term loss, long term gain.
Got a PS4 and a Series X myself. I don't think exclusivity is good for the gaming industry full stop.
