To be fair to us, we have a completely different back 4 now to what played in that game, and it’s performing much better.
Felt like it was going to be the Ewood Park game all over again, the chances we wasted were absolutely criminal but I suppose when confidence is as low as it is here, and we hadn’t scored a goal for the best part of five hours, it was going to take a bit of brilliance and/or a goalmouth scramble to get us over the line..I thought the bit of trickery from Bacuna looked out, I immediately looked at the Blackburn bench and not one person was appealing so that was enough for me to think it stayed in. And still, with the last kick of the game it could have been 1-1 Wish JE all best now, very understated on the night, got on with his job, a polite acknowledgment of the crowd then on to the job in hand, a class act, as he was during his time here.
No doubt without Victor we would have been looking at a big defeat but that's the best performance from us in a long while. It was nearer you than me but it looked like we should have had a penalty when Kioso was brought down, and if the ref gives the pen its a sending off. Or would it be classed as a double jeopardy thing? Believe it or not we haven't had a penalty all season and if we don't get that one, we never will. The Hull following was impressive and the loudest at the NYS this season, even when losing.
Confidence is a big factor I agree and there's a feeling we could have still cleared the ball for the goal but as I say, we really didn't deserve anything from the game on the performance put in last night. The chance we had at the death would have been a bit smash and grab (of a point) but for you, the fact it fell to Telalovic who really hasn't played at anywhere near this level till now and is yet to score was perfect. He really has to score there. JE seems a decent guy and (with no offence meant) he has had to deal with a bit of chaos behind the scenes previously so I'm sure that will stand him in good stead here - he's already said he operates with a no excuses attitude and works with what he has and I think, after the fall out with JDT and the board/owners and all the nonsense behind the scenes we need someone who can shut out all that noise in the position we find ourselves in and also help the players to do that too. I really think the adrenaline of the game against Stoke and the week leading into that kind of went against us last night and we just ran out of steam. There's a lot to work through but it's imperative we stay in this division, if we go down we are not returning anytime soon. As for Mowbray, we Rovers fans have so much time for him too - he came in off the back of the Lambert (who also walked away) and Coyle era, couldn't stop us from going down but then led us on one of the most enjoyable periods of time we have had under the current ownership - he brought the players and fans back together and nearly had us in the playoffs. He managed to somehow shut out all the noise from above and off the pitch and instill some pride back. For that, we also wish him all the best! I have a feeling (hope I am right) that JE may be able to do a bit of that too. Brilliant skill from Bacuna by the way and deserving of setting something up. I think you'll be fine under TM.
We were 2-1 up at the time and the feeling in the crowd was that the subs were going to backfire, like they did in the previous game. Both players were being managed with injuries but the fans didn't know that at the time. People don't tend to think critically in football stands. In general I think fans just don't rate Wagner, or trust him as he would put it. Not his fault but it does seem as if he is just the substitute teacher until our new Sporting Director gets a replacement in over the summer. There's a malaise around the club at the moment. Club is in limbo on multiple levels at the moment ans you can certainly feel that amongst the fans. If Wagner was going to be here next season I think it's safe to say he'd have been less prickly in that interview. Could have gotten his point across by just saying that the players were subbed off due to injuries. Really was no need to suggest that real fans don't boo, kind of a ridiculous sentiment when the 5k(ish) that were booing are also the ones that make noise throughout the rest of the game. Season ticket renewal stuff came through the next day. Featuring cover art of Rowe, Sara and Sargent. Could have picked a player that's going to be here next season.
Genuinely top 3 gutless performances I’ve seen in my 27 years as a regular. The atmosphere is turning really ugly here
Very small consolations, but watching Ipswich clap along to Barmy Army for five mins straight, I am left here thankful that I am Millwall, no matter how shit we are on the pitch
You won't see an uglier win than that, we were pretty appalling. Defended well, but we were massively helped by Boro not having a striker, that Greenwood guy looks shit. Is Lowe on the road to redemption?
Millwall looked bright for the first 15 mins but crumbled once we went ahead. The game was won out wide; having Moore means our crosses are much more varied, so it's not enough to block the cutbacks anymore. A bit of good fortune with the own goal and the harsh penalty but we'd have got the three points either way. A big confidence boost, our first clean sheet win in 2 months. We have a mostly favourable run in the next six weeks and need to rack up the points if we're going to return to the top two.
Won’t get an easier win than that all season. Didn’t even have to get out of first gear, just passed it around and had patience to wait for the opportunity, good to see us be clinical for once.
A truly feeble performance with some horrific goals conceded. Edwards is probably lucky we have a home game so soon after to try and put it right, although I can't see who could come in and do better, with Warnock messing around in Scotland. Maybe Rowett was working miracles after all. Very depressing.
He’s not looked interested for months and our strikers are all injured. Howson another one for the injury list probably too. We never do anything at Deepdale anyway…
Looked like a half decent team these last few games, doesn’t feel like we need to rush into appointing a new manger right now, much more positive than under Moore.
Phew. Big, big win. Scrappy, poor quality game as you would expect but played with some grit and determination that we haven't shown in recent weeks and got the job done. Just need to make sure this isn't a lucky one off and we can stop the rot and grind ourselves to safety.
