Sorry officer.I was on the motorway at around 1 in the morning heading up scotland didnt see anything for miles so put my clogg down.I might have killed a few little flys that couldn't get out of the way quick enough though.Having said that they are supposed to see stuff 50 times quicker than ourselves so they might have been OK.

I only drive stupidly fast in the country lanes as it's bloody good fun , the only person I'm going to harm is myself.

It test your skills aswell through the sharp corners etc.

I don't drive fast through urban areas like alot of my mates do though , it's just way too risky. One thing I hate is people who have 1.8+ and din't have a bloody clue how to drive 'em

Were behind a 1.8 Astra today and infront was a dustbin lorry , didn't have any idea how to get through so I had to take both and as I was coming out across he came out too with no fookin signal he saw me in time though and went back in behind FFS , I managed to overtake both though.

    A 3.0 V6 24V car a girls car!? STFU

The problem is with driving quick in a built up area isn't yourself a lot of the time, it's other idiots either on bikes, walking, cars who clearly don't know they are on a road... If you're going 40 down the 30 you generally can't stop quick enough if some ones being a idiot.

Case in point, yesterday I had two people pull right out in front of me without even looking, one women I beeped at 3 times before she looked left and saw my car right where she was going to plow into. I had a guy a few weeks back reverse straight into me, didn't even look where he was going, good job it was a kit car and I didn't have my handbrake on.

As for young drivers, I'm one obviously. I don't drive that quick only when I know I can and I'm putting no one at risk but I know far to many who do and just don't think about what could happen if you drive down a 30 at 50. Most of them have rich parents who buy the car for them so when they do write it off they just get another...

Im only 18 and i dont like going to fast because i dont fancy losing my licence or getting points. I like the idea of having a car and if i was to get caught for speeding thats the insurance up or your licence gone.

I'm paying 1.5k a year insurance for when you smash up someones motor driving far too fast. The only person you'll harm is yourself until one day someone comes the other way round a blind corner....

Of course, because I've repeatedly referred to 'racing' in my posts? Oh no, hang on, I haven't referred to it once? :confused

They are there for taxation purposes, not road safety.

The alternative is simple, don't have them. We didn't have them 10 years ago.

Road tax ~ almost doubled on my car in 3 years, more than doubled on 4x4's.

Fuel tax ~ the highest in Europe.

    'Safety' cameras ~ see above.

Congestion Charging, already in force in London and being put to a public vote in Manchester in December. A tax on people going to work, with proceeds spent on measures that will make driving yet more difficult, like bus lanes.

Anti motorist laws are many. We already had an offence of 'Driving without due care', they've invented a new law just to cover mobile 'phones. The amount of time and money spent on catching motorists doing 3 mph over the speed limit isn't reflected in any other area of crime detection.

Road tax should be double on 4x4.Just for the fact half of them who drive them will never go off road in their life and just have them for an ego trip.Dont even get me started on them on the school runs either blocking the path ways to the scool meaning MY kids have to take a risk when peeping between them:smackhead

    1. I'll take that back Stret. After reading post after post of people driving too fast, and then you're "my Astra's faster than that" comment, I made an assumption I shouldn't have.

    2. Cameras are a proven safety feature, when used strategically, in accident blackspots. They have saved many a life on A roads around the country.

    3. Get rid of them and go back to mindless speeding in built up areas, and risk more innocent people being killed? Not wise.

    4. I had already mentioned road tax and fuel tax, which although I agree they are extortionate, they have been here since I, and I guess you started driving. The congestion charge is a strange one. I can see the merits of it, but only if they are serious about getting people to use public transport in city centres. I don't know about Manchester Stret, but Glasgow city centre is gridlock most days, and more often than not, if I must go there, I take a taxi or bus.

    5. If a woman is doing her make up while driving, and smashes into your car, writing it off, should she not be prosecuted? It happened to my brother. It wasn't long ago that studies found that using a phone while driving, was almost as dangerous as drink driving. I don't think the punishment is harsh enough for that offence. I used to do it myself, and had a few close calls, where I've almost caused a serious accident.

I do agree with your final point on crime in other areas. Some crimes aren't priority here because of funding and/or because of the amount of paperwork that it involves, meaning time on the street is greatly reduced.

I hate 4x4's, but that doesn't mean they should be hammered with punitive road tax.

I'm one of these smugs gits that considers himself able to judge what is a safe speed for the road, traffic and weather conditions. I've been driving for nearly 30 years and sometimes like to have a bit of fun. I don't drive past schools or along avenues with parked cars at 50mph.

I remain unconvinced, and figures I've seen don't support the 'safety' argument.

In my experience people who tend to drive like idiots have usually pinched the car anyway, so speed humps don't slow them down?

I didn't say the taxes were new, but they have been raised and raised especially in the last 3 years, with the excuse that paying more road tax somehow is good for the environment, which is simply a lie.

I drive through the rush hour every working day, charging me £5 to do it won't stop me from doing it, my office is 25 miles from my home.

My point is that the 'Due car and attention' Law was already in place, there's no need for yet more legislation.

    Easy targets? Easy revenue?

Doesn't matter if you're going too fast on country lanes you don't need to be overtaking to hit someone.

I don't overtake on blind corners because that is dangerous driving nor do I speed through urban areas either like Stret.

Nor do you need to be overtaking to hit someone doing the speed limits either.... :zzz

Location: London.....never seen the countryside I can bet.
