He wouldn't be the first manager to say one thing and do another didn't Rodgers do something similar to Celtic?
Similar aye. Can't remember if he said anything about it in the weeks before but he did speak a lot about how he was in his dream job before he left us. Don't think he was happy with the board in his final season with us so the warning signs were there, although that's with hindsight. I don't think it's any surprise Gerrard said something like that. If for some reason the Villa job fell through, it would've been good PR for him, but now he's gone he doesn't have to appease the Sevco fans any more.
The timing is really shitty, but that's just football now. The man came with a clear task to complete and he completed it. He had the opportunity to go on and become a legend with potentially just one more season, he passed it up for what seems to be for most people, the promised land of the English Prem, be it mid table mediocrity or otherwise. He obviously feels it gives him a better chance at his end goal of becoming Liverpool manager and we all knew that was what it was all about at the end of the day. I disagree with him, but can accept it. He'll be remembered as a good Rangers manager who did everything correctly in his time here and ultimately achieved what he set out to achieve. The club is in a better place for him being here and that is an understatement. He put us back on the map in European competition and has us back at the very top of Scottish football. Some great memories, with title number 55 possibly being my greatest ever as a Rangers supporter. We'll always have him to thank for that. All the best to him and we move on.
Gio in, I am liking the sound of. We haven't really got going yet, are still 4 points clear but this can clearly be the turning point if we don't handle it well enough and/or get a bit of luck for a bit. As much as I didn't want Gerrard to go, it can be turned into a positive in the sense that a fresh face could really kickstart us and get us going, if it's the right face. Unfortunately we really need to act quickly, because we have a huge month and a bit of football on its way now. Up to the board to turn this feeling into excitement really quickly, with the right appointment
Can’t fault him for leaving Scottish football anyone with ambition would. Can’t understand Villa appointing an unproven manager.
Fairly self explanatory. Took us from years out of it completely and then being put out by part-time, Progres Niederkorn.....to wins over Feyenoord, Porto, Galatasaray, Legia Warsaw, Standard Liege, Rapid Vienna, Midtjylland, Antwerp and Braga in his 3 years. Two draws each with Benfica and Villarreal, qualification through the group stages in all 3 of his full seasons, reaching the last 16 in the last 2 of them and still in position to do the same this season. Earning us our respect back in European competition
Everyone in your team and staff would be straight up the road to us. Not even good enough to be a yo-yo club
