Steven Gerrard has came to Ibrox and turned Rangers into a side that is looking to be difficult to beat. Given we only played two pre-season matches against Bury & Wigan, which we won.. we have started our campaign off pretty well. He has came in, identified our weak points, and improved. Defence was a major issue and we have sorted that out. Creativity was an issue and that has also been sorted.. only thing we should look for is another CB and ST. Rangers has played over 900 minutes under Gerrard.. 720 mins of competitive football. We have played our last two league games with 10 men for 150mins and we haven't conceded first. - It has been a long, long time since I've felt this good about the club. There is a togetherness again and the players seem to be enjoying their football. We just need to keep winning and see where it will take us. I'm not saying we are going to win the league, we can only take each match as it comes and hope other results go our way.
Gerrard's definitely had a good start. He's had it tough with a pre season of competitive games & tricky European aways... plus 2 early red cards in the league. For him to seemingly have sorted out your biggest weakness so soon is promising. We'll see if he can keep it up but at least there's a feel good factor around Rangers atm. It's been a while since your fans had a side to be proud of, maybe this season they can be.
Every good side generally has a solid spine at the back and what is equally important is team spirit and having enough characters in a team to pull you through hard times and cajole others. Gerrard looks to have (from the early stages at least) went a long way in a short space of time in this regard. There was a lot of negativity about his appointment in some quarters, but from the position Rangers were in they needed to give the fans a leader and someone they would be confident in who wouldn’t crumble. It seems as though the other ‘experienced’ managers out there (who they could realistically get) didn’t have these qualities. I said at the time that I thought this was the last roll of the dice for King, but at the early stages Gerrard is looking like the right man at the right time for Rangers.
From what I've seen so far, I'm not convinced. Teams are still creating a lot of chances against you and the slightly better ones you'll face will take them. McGregor has had a good start to his time there and he won't do it all the time. I also don't think you have enough up front. So far, you've had the luckiest draw ever in Europe and played a team who always fold against you and the team who came up last season. You have a tough (ish) wee run of games coming up now and imo we'll learn a lot more about you in a month or so. We'll also learn more about Gerrard and how he handles adversity. So far on that score, it doesn't look too good given his childish meltdown after Aberdeen. Wonder when the charges will be brought for that btw. That said, you can only beat what's put in front of you and so far at least you've not lost. If you are going for Laugherty then I can't see him scoring many more that Morelos would so even though he's a different type of thug, he won't score enough to turn tight games.
Celtic looked like world beaters in John Barnes first couple of months. Way to early to tell yet. The big tests come with conjested schedules, injuries to key players, how you bounce back after the first defeat etc.
Definitely improved the team but a blind man could have done that. Rangers have played no one of note yet and have carried a fair bit of luck, i'm not saying they haven't turned into a decent team but it's far too early to say that they have. The fans and media reaction was always going to happen and has happened with every manager and regime that has came in and ultimately failed. . . .judge Gerrards Rangers in the middle of October.
Caesar, fair comment on your post. CS: Managers, fellow & former teammates attract footballers to sign with clubs CS- just read Arzani's article about Rodgers & Rogic. Likewise Gerrard has done the same with his Liverpool & EPL club connections, hence why Gers now have 4 former Liverpool players in its squad.
I wonder if Steve Clark will burst the invincibles bubble today. Can't believe McGregor has been dropped, the guy has won Rangers games himself.
He's done a lot more than that mate, he has given supporters like myself an interest in Scottish football again, ive watched more games since his appointment than ive watched the past 5 years
They haven't proved that yet. Celtic are capable of being invincible, that had been proven. Rangers perfectly good goal not given but I feel Killie lool comftorble, Rangers look more of a counter attack side under Gerrard and can hurt on the break.
Rangers right up the park and score after their keeper makes an incredible save.... Could be the story of their season. They look like they can score going forward but they do concede a lot of chances.
They are certainly getting the breaks but the main story of the season will be how many times Morelos dives and doesn't get booked for it.
2-0 now game over but its been a fairly even game with Killie winning the midfield battle but struggling to cope wuth speed of Rangers attacking play, they are very fast up the park from defence to attack, polar opposite of how we play.
Too early to tell yet, I would love him to be another Souness when he took over Souness bought in players like Terry Butcher, Chris Woods, Trevor Stevens but 'The Souness Revolution' did not really kick in until the arrival of the new chairman (Sir) David Murray, 1988 who was a friend of Souness and then the Revolution was in full progress, we all know the rest. If Gerrard can do well without a millionaire chairman splashing out the dosh on good players then hats off to him, but I will hold fire yet until he gets a few games under his belt, especially the Derby matches against Celtic.
Well deserved goal from Killie. They have had success off Barosic all game and finally had a bit of luck go their way.
Yeah they do deserve to be in this game and there are more goals here for them. Rangers look poor when attacked wide and at that goal, there was 2 crosses that they could and should have stopped coming in.
