Goodie mob are one of those groups I've listened more to as I've aged a bit. And cee-lo is underrated as an emcee imo. His opening verse on "git up git out" by outkast is one of the best feature verses ever. Simply because he paints a picture of his struggle with himself and life in a simple but brilliant way

Yeah cee lo had a tough upbringing as well. It’s definitely heartfelt

I liked goodie mob back in the day but wouldn’t call myself a fan. Gave their first album a proper listen after watching hip hop evolution on Netflix and fckin loved it. They’re all good mcs in their own right. I love big gipps southern drawl as well

same with outkast. Don’t like their commercial stuff so never really listened to their first 3 albums properly until recently. They’re 3 classic hip hop albums right there! Still can’t decide which is my favourite, they are all so different. Never realised what fckin great mcs they are either

Love this tune as well. cool breeze and big gipp killing it!

Yeah gipps southern accent is one of the heaviest southern accents In rap lol. Soul food would have to be one of my favourite records of theres.
And as for outkast, after (or maybe before) wu tang they're probably my favourite hip hop act. Their early stuff in particular is f**king brilliant. Decatur psalm is such a good song. I Like " mainstream" just a little bit more. You heard much of aquemini?
    Masterpiece stuff imo

There’s very little to chose between their first 3 albums imo. I’ve gone back and forth numerous times on what is my favourite outkast album. I think aquemini has higher highs, than the other 2

But I think the other 2 are more consistent. There isn’t a skipable tune on either of them which is rare. All 3 are classics, I’d probably go with ATLiens if I had to chose. If you asked me next week I’d probably say Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik

I think it’s a real rare situation where you have a group where both guys are incredibly talented and highly creative. The creative difference between the first and second album is incredible. And they are 2 of the best mcs ever imo. Will always be a bigger Wu fan though

Not sure if posted but thought this was pretty cool.
Shows how simple the sample is to probably the best, if not one of the best beats ever. Havoc has produced some absolute belters in his time to be honest

The new Potter Payper mixtape is pretty special. Not sure how many people on here are aware of him but it’s certainly worth checking out. Know a few of you aren't grime/drill fans but this is just pure rap. Really impressive body of work seeming he was only released from prison earlier this year. One of those rappers who is really about what they rap about

First time he’s tweeted in probably a year+. If this doesn’t mean there’s new music coming soon then I am f*cking done with life.

    Yeah, fingers crossed. Feel like I’ve been saying “I hope this is the year CAS drops an album” for most of my life at this point :laugh;

Rumours there’s a song with La Roux (Which is f*cking random ) coming out this Friday so I’m getting ready to get heartbroken all over again.

Still not a fan of uk hip hop as a whole (other than Dave of course). However had a listen to AJ traceys latest album, which is really good! Nice beats through out, lots of clever wordplay and hes got a wicked flow. This album gets better every time I listen to it

AJ Tracey is decent. I just worry that he will move away from the music that made him a success and go too mainstream. I get that he wants to make some £££ but it's also important to remember what got him where he is now.

But saying that, his songs with Mabel give me a proper old school garage vibe which I like.

Im not a fan of grime so from my point of view I’m glad he’s move away from his roots. And tbh he’s not a rapper that’s ever been easy to pigeonhole. I’ve listened to his albums and a couple of EPs and his style is a mix of lots of different genres, especially his first album

Ironically this is probably one of the most commercial songs on the album

Yep, he actually switches flows quite often on the same song. Very versatile and someone who is different from the normal type of grime artist.

Yep, there are a couple like this but I think Mabel accompanies AJ's flow and the beat of the tune very nicely.

The era I love is the early to late 90s. Wu tang, biggie, redman, public enemy etc. I’ve struggled with Uk hip hop (other than mf doom, which isn’t uk influenced). Never really been a big fan of it but it’s still miles better than most of the shit coming out of the states these days.

What I will say though is there are some incredible mcs this side of the water - AJ Tracey, skepta and Dave are on a different level to most US rappers. But it’s the beats that I’ve never been a big fan of up until now

I'm similar. Late 80s to mid 90s for me. Not to say there isn't good stuff beyond that, but hard to beat the likes of NWA, Jurassic 5, ATCQ, Run DMC, Ugly duckling, etc.
