And outkast, Cyprus hill, goodie mob…., the list is almost endless. Without doubt the golden age of hip hop, late 80s - mid 90s. Part of my problem is I compare today’s music to that era and I generally always feel disappointed.

Lyrically the UK have some amazing artists.....Wretch 32 (listen to his fire in the booth with Avelino the word play is insane), Potter Payper (yeah yeah I'm biased) and even Cadet (RIP gone before your time!).

For delivery.....I cannot look past Kano but both Mic Righteous and Ghetts are right up there as well.

Been absolutely rinsing Frankie Stew & Harvey Gunn lately. They describe themselves as “not quite hip-hop, not quite garage, but definitely UK”

They definitely have that Streets quality of not quite singing, not quite rapping so I see the compassion. They’re both local lads to me which definitely helps too.

Their album from last year was my AOTY.

But honestly their back catalogue is 100% worth a deep dive. So many classics. Black Water, Tortoise, Coconuts, No Sleep & dozens more.

The new Potter Payper album is f*cking exceptional.

@Jonny Ninja as someone who loves the old school American stuff but is getting in to the UK scene I think you’ll love it. Proper rap. Had the album on repeat since it dropped.

@Sme I hope he’s doing okay inside! It’s an absolute masterpiece of a project x

This would have absolutely smashed it if he wasn't inside as radio will not play any of his songs until he is out.

Safe to say I’ve never been so excited for an album.

You shouldnt, i grew up with that late 80's 90's stuff too, and hip hop is always evolving thats the best thing about it, its unfair to compare as theres too much history and emotion attached to music you grew up with. Loads and loads of great new music out there.

Saw the tracklist and there’s a couple of tracks he dropped half a decade ago on there. Pretty extended album run if that’s the case

Finally getting this on Spotify is a godsend though :D

Think M1llionz is pretty much the only drill rapper I like who isn’t currently in prison or dead. 2nd half isn’t drill and is really good too.

You got a chance to listen to it yet?

I’ve waited years and it still blew my expectations out of the water. Absolutely amazing album. If he’s the only full album he drops then I’m glad it’s as good as I expected from him. Masterpiece.

    (Also @Richard @Sme @83royal and anyone else)

Ah I totally forgot it was coming out. Middle age and weed is not a good combination.

Gonna give it a listen now. Thanks for the heads up dude
