FILTHY All credit to the lad, one of his best games, I wish he played like that more, we all know he has the talent.
Well done the 'pool, another great European night to look forward to. Have I got this right, if they win the cup they get the fourth CL spot? EDIT: Cancel that, just read the last page. Five entries in the Champions league? Madness..
You should know full well the difficulties of the competition, given your own teams struggle against Mitjylland. Sevilla themselves in the last three seasons of the Europa League have overcome Fiorentina, Villarreal, Zenit, Porto, Valencia, Benfica and Bilbao as well as beating Juventus in the Champions League. To suggest the game is already won is just not true, and very disrespectful to a Sevilla side that have won the competition more times than any other, all in the last ten years. You've got a short memory, when United when the Cup Winners Cup in '91 it was a big deal.
Congrats on getting to the final. Hope you go on to win it. See you in champs league next season!!! Sent from my GT-I9301I using Tapatalk
Brilliant. Villareal are by no means shit. ThoughtThought theyd grind a 0-0. Sevilla have pedigree and all the experience of finals recently so if Liverpool beat them i doubt it can be argued they didnt turn up.
It's Liverpool-Man United. Of course it's a tough tie in context to what we could have had (Sevilla played Molde at that stage). We'd lost the league games the last two seasons and Van Gaal was being hailed as having a hoodoo over us. We wiped the floor with you at Anfield and saw the tie out away. After knocking out United we just wanted to avoid Dortmund who were the best team in the competition. After beating them we'd rather have avoided Villareal. After beating them we'd rather have faced Shakhtar. Sevilla are an outstanding team in knockout football. They've won the last two Europa Leagues and are in the Spanish Cup final this month. They did batter City at the Etihad and should have won before conceding at the end. Since the home game their home form has been unbelievable (I think they've beat Real and Barca as well in the league) so a game over 6 months ago doesn't have much bearing. They were in and around 4th a few months back but prioritised the two cups (as we did) and are now in two finals. You prioritise the Europa and your league form suffers. The years Atleti were winning it they weren't in the top 4 either. I don't like the Europa League, I think it's a shit competition unless you go and win it, and winning it is better than doing an Arsenal and being in the CL but not getting close to winning it. In 2001 we won it after knocking out Barcelona, Roma and Porto and this year by the standards of the competition we've had a tough run again.
At the end of the day would you rather finish 2nd in the Premier league and qualify for the Champions League or would you rather win the Europa League and qualify for the Champions League? IF Liverpool win the final, then they've had a better season than Arsenal, City, Spurs, Utd (unless they win the FA Cup AND finish 4th) etc.
I would rather win a European trophy than finish fourth and win the FA cup tbh. Same reward at the end but a European trophy is far more prestigious.
I want to win a major trophy which the Europa League is. That's bigger than simply qualifying for the CL anyway. If we lose the final though then it's all for nothing and we won't be in the CL or have the glory of a trophy. It's one thing getting to the final but we need to win it. Kolo was great as well which meant Sakho wasn't a big loss on the night. We need that back four wrapped in cotton wool for the final given what's behind them.
S I suppose that's down to personal preference but thinking about it, finishing 4th only puts you in the Champions League qualifying round right? Whereas Europa puts you straight in the group? Exactly. If it was a straight up choice of Champions League next season or major trophy this season then it'd be major trophy every day of the week. Luckily for Liverpool, provided they win the final, it kills two birds with one stone.
Can was brilliant. Closely followed by Firmino, Milner and Lovren. Emre Can v Villarreal Total Liverpool rank Passing 69 1st Dribbling 3 1st Tackles 4 1st Interceptions 4 1st
Lovren looks the real deal. The belief Jurgen has breathed into these players makes me think next season could be something special at Anfield with a few of his own additions.Pleased for ya mate.
