Thought he was excellent, and in a role that is very difficult when you come to think about it. Completely carrying the film, the change in his character through the 'hours', utterly breaking down emotionally, and it all seemed very natural. Think I'm 20% gay for him to be honest.
That's the one. Just watched Sling Blade (1996) Brilliant story, great acting all round and emotional near the end. 8.5/10
Mud - 7/10 Decent watch. Really enjoyed the casting (couple of familiar faces from Boardwalk Empire) & I love Sarah Paulson. Mcconaughey steals it for me, although the young lad who played 'Ellis' (Tye Sheridan) runs him close.
Trance - I, I just don't know. I think I fell asleep for a minute because I couldn't make sense of what was going on.
And it's far too self-contained for it even matter. I think I followed it but I've forgotten by now. Unnecessarily convoluted and ludicrous plot.
Brilliant film, Marisa Tomei got best supporting actress Oscar for her role, but it's the scenes between Vinny and the judge (the late Fred Gwynne) that are most memorable for me.
God I've not seen that in years. That used to be one of those films that always made the rounds as the BBC Saturday night film. Gonna have to go rewatch that now.
I'd probably give it 6.5/10, there are good moments and the way the case goes is interesting as is his learning curve, I could easily watch it again. Finally got to watch the end of Hell Boy II (The Golden Army) 6/10 as someone decided to put it on at a decent time - prefer the first film, this has good characters although the human 'minder' has gone and been replaced with another member of the team who is a bit like Robbie the robot (?) There are some great scenes in the film, but like the first film it drifts towards a fairly insipid conclusion in my opinion, the end of II is fairly predictable. Oh and the love thing with Selma Blair is just so much of a pointless side plot. First time I caught glimpse of those scenes I could see Herman Munster in him, not so much in The Secret Of My Success 7/10 where he is Donald Davenport. I love that film, although a little on the silly side for me. Probably sums up companies nicely even to today, that the difference between an executive and a postroom boy is more often than not about ambition, determination and other personality traits more than actual ability. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001304/?ref_=tt_cl_t8
Definitely. My favourite scene is where he walks in with that ringleader suit and then explains why to the judge. But the chemistry between Joe and Marisa was brilliant too. So many memorable scenes though. One of the few laugh out loud films for me.
Deservedly so. It was on More Movies. I'd never even have thought to watch it had it not been mentioned in the Radio Times. Glad I spotted it. A couple of the court interrogation scenes stood out for me. The bloke with the dirty windows and the guy who cooks his grits in five minutes. Not forgetting the early morning wake up scenes.
Agreed. "Are you mocking me?" . . . and the bloke who wanted to fight him but didn't have $200, and the nights in jail for contempt of court, and the woman with the milk bottle bottom lenses etc. etc. etc.
