    IIRC Given had one of their penalties, possibly the winning one, covered with his foot, then it hit the painy on the six yard line and bounced up enough to clear his foot. Horribly unlucky that.

    Argentina were in a record 6th.

    Yeah, even when Argentina loses the semi-final they'll have the match for 3rd place, so he could reach 26. Although normally in those "little finals" you let some players play who weren't regulars during the tournaments. But maybe Messi is still motivated to play in it (and I hope it's only the little final ;) )

    They beat Belgium, England and Turkey in 2002 on the way to the final. That leaves 2006,2010,2014,2018 and 2022 in which they lost to European teams which is five times counting on my hand.
