Does anyone agree with me that it could be argued he's the best footballer in history? I don't think it's an obvious yes or no, but if you look at what he won and the way he played the game, it'd be hard to say that anyone else is better. I'm not old enough to have seen Pele, other than clips, reruns and docos, and I was pretty young when Maradona was at his peak. But I watched Zidane from his time at Juve to his retirement and I can't imagine that anyone could be much better. I think he was the leader and most important player in every trophy his teams won. 1 World Cup 2 World Cup Finals 1 Euro Championship (Player of the Tournament) 2 Serie A Titles 1 La Liga Title 1 Champions League 3 FIFA World Player of the Year awards 1 Ballon D'or 3 Serie A Footballer of the Year awards 1 World Cup Golden Ball award 3 Onze D'or awards
He was a great player thf. The best for me is Rio . Zidane is in the top 5 greatest players of all time thoe.
Wouldn't agree at all. Great player, maybe top 10 ever, maybe even top 5, but I would prefer Pele and Maradona. IMO Beckenbauer was better as well, and again he's in a rank with some other (usually old) players. But since 1990, I'd say he was the best.
Ditto. His accomplishments in international football are what set him apart from the rest of his generation.
I think it was in Giggs book, when he said there were only ever two players United man marked, Zidane and can't remember who else . I know YouTube video's aren't really that good for showing how good a player is, but look at this; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhcM4WP2cTc
Never really liked the guy but I would say along with Maldini he is the best player I have seen since I started following football (1996 onwards).
Stick to being a war historian as opposed to a football one..... Surprised no one has mentioned Eric Cantona so far
