Very excited for April 4th. Sturgill Simpson and Tyler Childers heading to my neck of the woods at a pretty great venue. Modern country music for people who hate modern country music (me)
Went to see Twin Atlantic in Manchester last night. Proof that being completely generic is no bar to success.
Can tell they reckon every song is a proper anthem. When really each song blends into the next. Glad it was a free ticket.
Had tickets to see The National last week and Frank Turner on Friday. This virus lark is really pissing me off now..
There’s something good happening in Melbourne in September. Just got me a couple of tickets for Alt-j. Normality is approaching people..
Foo Fighters next Friday. Their one off gig in Australia just happens to be 110km down the road in Geelong. Unfortunately I didn't think to book accommodation before getting tickets and now the town is full. There have been a couple of cancellations, presumably from people who did book but couldn't get their hands on the prize, but hotels that are usually $170 a night are going for close to a grand, so the last train home it is..
Finally got to see Blondie last night in the Liverpool Arena, about 45 years late She may have lost her stunning looks but she can still put on a decent show at 76, struggles with a few of the high notes stuff but decent all round. Johnny Marr supporting was pretty decent too.
Looks like Dave's going to carry on with the Foos. Two gigs announced in September as tributes to Taylor. Maybe trying the water first?
Yeah I am quite encouraged by this now that we may not have seen the last of the Foo Fighters. I had convinced myself that they were going to call it quits.
Just got tickets to see the Arctic Monkeys in January. Missed out on the presale for Melbourne so had to settle for tickets on the lawn at the Sydney Myers Bowl on January 4th but got tickets for the Adelaide showgrounds two days later. Pumped that there is talk of a new album being dropped soon as well. Anyone heard anything about that?
Went to see Tom Grennan last night at a small and intimate music venue in the CBD. It’s usually only tribute bands who play here so I was made up when I got a last minute notification that he was performing. Great live, he got the crowd bouncing for the whole gig even though he was wrecked with jet lag.
Went to see Tim Minchin last night, one of the best comedy shows I've ever seen, performed with a live band which punched out funny songs with punch lines at every turn. The song about Cheese was hilarious, as was the whole set and if he's in a venue near you in the future I can't recommend him highly enough. 9.3523/10
Saw Placebo in the week, excellent live performance from them. They were touring a new album so the setlist was very heavy on that. I hadn't heard the songs prior but they were very typical Placebo, great sound and everyone enjoyed it, and of course they threw in a few older bangers too. Would definitely recommend giving them a go live if you're into their stuff. Brian made a very laboured point about not using your phones, which came in the form of: A pre-gig e-mail a week before asking people not to use their phones A warning from venue staff on entry not to use phones A graphic on screen during set up asking people not to use phones A video on screen of Brian asking people not to use phones Personally I'm all for this, I hate seeing people holding their phones up all show just to capture some shaky recording with poor sound that they'll never watch again, ruining the show for people behind them in the process. I don't mind people taking a quick photo at the start or at the end, something to remember the show by, etc. The crowd being older probably helped, but I only saw a few phones out over the course of the show, so the message was well received. Everyone clapped the message on screen, but the mutterings around me were very much "yeah okay, we get it." However after being told not to do something multiple times, at the end I couldn't help myself. Got you, Molko!
