I'll put for my classical entry the finale of Mahler's monumental Resurrection Symphony which asks the biggest question of all - what happens when we die? If you haven't heard it before bring hankies because this is extraordinarily beautiful. This is the best recording I could find of it (and I hate concert versions as idiots clap as soon as its finished) and though the fidelity isn't great, its still a fantastic version.
I've tried this a couple of times now and I haven't been able to whittle a selection down to ten. I'll give it another go before the deadline.
Haha, I knew you would bite at my comment Yes, he was. I really love the Nibelungen saga and I can't really explain why I don't like him. At least Bayreuth still thrives due to the annual Wagner festivals (wait, maybe it was because I once saw Angela Merkel visiting the Wagner festival in a dress with a huge décolleté that I must puke when I think of Wagner ) It's ok when you're not fond of him, too. But I love it to relax with the Brandenburg Concertos playing in the background (best for me to get a bit of sleep asap, not that's it's so boring, no, it's so relaxing for me). Yeah, I like my german classics aside from Wagner
No just one Oasis, off DM, their best album. What do you take me for? One of those 'dads' who just discovered them after Wonderwall?
Definitely Maybe is the best album of the 90’s by some distance. I nearly put 3 songs off of it in my top 10.
Listened to DM today, with the extra tracks, so the white label demo of Columbia was on it. The demo version of Cigarettes and Alcohol is great too. Taking advantage of the 3 months free Apple music offer.
I do have the Brandenberg concertos there myself as well as a few others so am not totally averse him, but Handel is my man for that period.
Loved IT Crowd what's the matter, steven. Problems with the music? Have you tried to turn it off and on again? That's ok, Salty. I like Händel too (and I can even write him properly due to the ä Umlaut on my keyboard )
In your opinion, that’s the beauty of music there is no right or wrong opinion. It was my personal fave. There was plenty of great albums in that decade though like The Verve, REM, Lauryn Hill, Nas, manics, James, to name a few.
I get that music is partially subjective, but it can objectively be just plain bad. You miss Painkiller by Priest, The Downward Spiral by NIN, Depeche Mode by Violator, My Bloody Valentine - Bloodless, Pearl Jam - 10, RHCP- Blood Sugar Sex Magik, RHCP - Californiacation and so much more, the 90's ****ing killed it.
Interestingly, apart from the Chili Peppers and Pearl Jam, none of your offerings appear on my radar for the 90s and the odd albums that I have rarely get an airing. I might give Painkiller a listen as, so far, the only Priest track that gets many plays is the 1980 released "United (We Stand)" on the road to away matches. Apparently it was team entry music at the Abbey before my time. Looking back, work meant that I had little time for new music (and none for football). I was playing my old stuff, buying blues and jazz on CDs and picking up music on my travels - I've got a dozen Romanian vinyl LPs, also Chutney, Soca and Calypso CDs from Carribean holidays and a lot of my African and "World Music" was bought in that decade.
