    Strewth as the Aussies say.

What a game that was. One flimsy point is all it came down to.

Pies were not in the game at all having not scored a goal for over 40 minutes playing time then bang they get four in under five minutes in the 3rd Q.

    Love this game.

GWS gave their all on that pitch, didn't think they'd get that close in reality even though I was hoping for an upset. I can't see another close game tonight, Brisbane should have way too much for Carlton but I'd love the Blues to do it as I think they would be the only team to stop the ****ing Pies from winning the flag..

    Come On You Blues!!

Was in the pub last night with one eye on the game but didn’t follow closely. GWS were up by 17 at one point. They will be kicking themselves for blowing that. Whoever wins today gets my support next Saturday - f**k Collingwood

What a fantastic start for Carlton. Not just getting the 13 point lead but the pressure they are putting Brisbane under. They have hardly got out of their own half in the first 8 minutes. I am off out in a bit so probably only watching till HT. Looks like this is going to be a ripper of a game as well.

Oh well, was a good run by the Blues, and finishing 3rd is not a bad thing, I would love the Eagles to thump the Magpies in the Grand Final.

Lions Grand Final bound after ending Blues' dream
Brisbane overcomes a fast-starting and hard-finishing Carlton to lock in its place in the season decider

They'll no doubt be another 90,000 'Pies fans for the final so Brisbane will have to overcome those bogans and that huge Melbourne pitch..

@Red Tide Commiserations mate - felt for you last night. The way that 1st quarter went I thought it was on but by HT it had changed.
One thing I did forget to mention y’day was the amount of Blues fans in the stadium. At some point it felt like they were outnumbering the home fans!

The big stat for me going into the final is that the Lions must overcome their MCG hoodoo. Since Chris Fagan took over as coach at the start of 2017, Brisbane has won just one of 12 matches at the MCG and that came in last year's semi-final against Melbourne. The Lions have played at the ground just twice in 2023, upset by Hawthorn (who are shite) before being edged by the Demons (who are not shite but nowhere near the force they were three years ago). Going back even further, Brisbane has lost 14 of its past 15 games at the MCG.
They did beat Collingwood in the league this year in Melbourne but that game was played at the much smaller venue at Marvel stadium.

Public holiday in Melbourne today. The city gets Grand final day fever early in this state..

I was hoping Brisbane were going to win but on seeing the stats above it doesn’t bode well. Lunch time KO here so I might get a couple of pies, smother ketchup on the top of them and get a couple of cans of Emu in. GF day - why not go full bogan

That reminded me of when I was out there at a match, eating a Noon or 4 and 20 Pie covered in tomato sauce, sigh, those were the days many moons ago.

I'm watching the first half at the local Bowls club, $8 a pint in there which is the cheapest in the City I would imagine, then if Brisbane show any signs of a fight I'll watch the second half at a neighbour's house who is having one of his now famous (in our street) BBQ's.
The forecast is for clear skies and a high of 28 degrees for the game, at least that will be in the Lion's favour..

Watching the game live ( usually record then watch back at a later time. Kickoff is 5.30am UK time. Mad.

Just hope it is a high scoring end to end game.

Best of luck to both teams.

    Let battle commence.

Pies out of the traps early with two quick goals, I hope they peak too early and blow air out of the collective arses later on..

Two goals in a minute and half for the Pies at the end of the first quarter sees the bastards go in by ten. It’s very hot in Melbourne today so I’m hoping Collingwood start to feel the heat soon..

Over 100 points in first half.

Hope the 2nd half is just as good.

Thought would have played this in the cooler evening but what do I know.
