If he’s not picked as has been rumoured, then that’s very good news for Liverpool re Trent. He’s a young lad and he’s going to have the summer to rest, then when the new season comes round he’ll be chomping at the bit to get going and show everyone how good he is
Shit for him though got dropped from the last squad because of "form" and has been unbelievable since then and still not selected he's gonna be gutted.
Southgate will probably have them down as the 3 'extras' in his head now there's 26 available instead of 23. Henderson had been back in full training with us before the end of the season, so a few friendly outings & he probably would be tbf. Talent-wise England are good enough... That position is an area of ridiculous strength, but yeah, a lad who was pretty unanimously acknowledged as the best about in his position for the last few years, had a poor start to the season due to COVID & injury, but been the best player at the league's form team for the past few months. Also a potential option in midfield when the first 3 players in those roles all coming off injuries.
Alexander-Arnold is very good but when you consider that two English right backs were in the Champions League final and another just won La Liga you can kind of see why he might not get much game time. It's not that surprising if he misses out.
He's still arguably the best right back in the world and every other country would take him so yeah it is surprising. Also in the best form of his career.
James' bossing in the final solidified his place along with being able to play in a back 3. Probably a similar reason as to why Walker was selected for being able to play there too. That leaves a head to head on Trent v Trippier whom I believe are similar in style. I prefer TAA based on past comparisons, but I've not seen any Spanish football to suggest whether Southgate is right or wrong taking Trippier. However, purely for Trent's attacking threat if the front 3 are nullified, then he surely has to go? What an embarrassment of riches in that position though that may likely never be seen again.
Yes, just a little bit I honestly don't know, Mancini did a good job, we won 12-13-14 I don't even how many matches in a row, but we didn't play against strong teams. I don't know, let's see. Our best players today are Verratti, Jorginho, Donnarumma, Barella, Insigne and Immobile. None of them is a world class player. We missed the WC so we are overyhyped for this Euro. I just hope to do well.
I'm not sure I'd call it a blessing. This might be his only chance to be involved in a tournament and dare I say European football. I can't see Southampton qualifying for Europe any time soon and I'm not sure I really see any of the bigger clubs coming in for him. He's played a lot of football but that's the same for anyone in the squad really. Most of them are coming off the back of 50+ game seasons. I really think JWP's international opportunities are limited. If he doesn't make this tournament that's probably his last opportunity to do so. Absolutely baffling. I guess we'll see in a few hours but surely it's just paper talk. I know there are good alternatives in that position but I think TAA not starting is controversial enough, to think he may not even go is absurd.
The thought of Coady or Mings playing makes me shiver, White & Godfrey are definitely better players than both of them. Mings would be nowhere near the squad if he was a bit shorter and right footed.
Hopefully won't see Pickford play despite being included. Good to see common sense prevailed regarding Trent, would have been frankly hilarious had he not gone after his quality over the last 6 weeks . The rest of the squad is as expected, a lot of predictable selections, and some less so. Also predictable how well we will do in the tournament, ie not very well. It's the England way. Southgate out by the end of the year.
Seems to be a lot of players who can fit into a number of position depending on fitness and form. Saka for example could play 3 positions and the full backs can play right or left.
