My sister has just bought a Toyota Aygo too. £8,000. Has'nt got it yet, Should be here in early september.
Seriously, that's not a good sum for a car. Be careful because cars in that price range are usually at the age where they're about to need an exhaust, brake discs, battery and especially check the tyres, they are very expensive!
I spent £2k - £2.5k on my Clio and it's been ok. Failed two MOT's in successive years but that's my fault! £3k should be plenty enough for a first car, but just shop around on your insurance!
I appreciate that, but I'm taking about the parts that have to be replaced due to normal wear and tear. Ask if it's had an exhaust when looking at a car, they can be anything up to £200 even on a small car, and as I say especially check all 5 tyres. Ask for a service history too. Good luck.
Insurance is a b@stard....... but no doubt I'll pay it..... Cost's arn't the issue once i've got a car for £3k or under... My Grandma is selling a good'en, KA Collection... 13,000miles on the clock..... 03 plate...... £2,700, and since my grandma drove it it's not been thrashed around and considering it's only done 13k miles, it should be in good nick still. Sadly it's a girls car and I won't be purchasing.
Very true, and shallow types (like me) would no doubt get into your ribs about it, but it sounds like a good deal and at your age it's about getting some transport first and foremost? What do you care what people think in the real world, let alone the virtual? I'd rather a Ford than a FIAT for instance . . .
I got my first car 2 months ago for £200, yes £200. It's a Fiesta 1992 model, good working order etc, nothing wrong with it.
Same as mine i think it was either an 89(G reg) or 92 (J reg), Good little cars to start of in though.
That's the creul part of it, I paid £1100 just for a 998cc Fiesta when 17, Saying that i did have 8 points already. A year later i paid £1800 for an 1.8 8v Golf Gti, A sh1tty old B reg The following year it went right down after i had 2 years no claims, Buzzing. C@rl, My brother was in the same position as you not so long ago, He ended buying a Ford Focus 1.8 cc 3 door 01 plate 63k for 2 grand after searching Auto trader for 3 months, Insurance was £1100 so he spent a total £3100. Fantastic little cars and never read a bad review on one, Fairly modern, Reliable, and quite pokey for a first car, Also a car you should be able to get alot of money back when you come to sell it. Also the Fiesta Zetec S was another he was looking at, Quite sporty and they go for the same sort of price as the Focus and simular insurace costs. Here one here for £2000 with 51k miles and you'll pay a grand insurace, ya smoking www.confused.com try an online quote from here and you might be a little surprised.
My first cars were a Corsa and piece of shite Renault 5 Corsas nowadays are great little cars, avoid Renaults like the plague! Ford Fiestas are a decent option too.
