I've been following Liverpool for the best part of 50 years, I don't ever recall being so gutted and thoroughly depressed about an event or news involving the club, bar Hillsborough of course (and I'm not in any way comparing the two, that would be ridiculous). I have a feeling they have the replacement lined up already, on the quiet. And Klopp's agreed to not say anything about it until now because it's confirmed maybe? As said by others, I can't think of anyone else bar Alonso. But I can't see him being a patch of Klopp.
Apparently there's a clause in Alonso's contract that allows him to leave to manage Liverpool. Although, that's a very convient story to drop 7 minutes ago lol Liverpool legend Xabi Alonso has a clause that allows him to manage former club | FourFourTwo
HaHa brilliant , I reckon if Pep becomes the 1st person to wins the Premier League 4 times in a row he'll join him as well , nothing to prove in England & will do something Fergie couldn't achieve , although I'll miss Klopp's interviews & he's been great for LFC & Premier League . Glamour job for the next person , if the club hasn't been sold beforehand .
Gerrard would be an awful replacement, hes struggling with unlimited funding in the saudi league, what makes you think he would be remotely good at liverpool, let him stay as one of their club legends not a guy who becomes hated cos hes an average manager. thats like letting rooney give united a bash.
I think Klopp has been honest about it with the club and it is fair enough, if you can't keep going to the well then don't end up working yourself into the ground. He is not like hodgson (can't keep away) or like Mourinho who's aged himself massively) He has always said he will live well after football. Purely selfishly for LFC I hope he has a spectacular season to have a huge send off. the alonso stuff was rumoured much earlier in the season so it popping up as an "exclusive " is convenient click bait.
Coincidentally Shankly left in 1974 which is going to be 50 yeas now. I presume you don't recall that one
Pepijn Lijnders also confirmed to be leaving, so he won't be taking over. Convinces me even more than someone is lined up and agreed.
Fair play, though he’s been of value to the league, both in terms of the gung ho brand of football he‘s got Liverpool playing and his charisma. Dislike his tendency to basically bully officials and reporters one moment and then feign reasonableness after the fact, but then you could level that accusation at a fair few managers I suppose
I do, actually. Well, sort of. Through the vaguely recalled eyes of a 3 year old, mainly as a result of my nan crying about it. Same when Keegan left, but I remember that one properly.
Just watched the longer video on the club channel. Looks like he is quitting managing. Said, 'I' ve been doing this since 24, and I want to try to normal life before it's too late'. I respect that. Still ****ing hurts.
Gutted. Nothing much else to say. Hope the timing of this doesn’t derail our season. Hopefully bag another trophy or 2 before the banter years return.
I do remember that, too, Pags. Biggest joy for me, when he joined HSV then btw: Didn't know you reached the 50 mark, yet. Always had you as a mid40 *************** Just read at kicker.de that Jürgen promised his wife Ulla to take a 1 year "sabbatical" after the Liverpool job (he did similar after the Dortmund job). So that's it then with my hope he takes the Germany job? btw: Found this pic of him in the Mainz05 dress where he played (and later coached) in the article
Think it's more likely to have the opposite effect. Fans and players will do everything to ensure he goes out with a bang - can easily see Liverpool going unbeaten at Anfield for the rest of the season. On a more cynical note, you think they'd have waited until the January transfer window closed though. Liverpool still have a massive pull but playing for Klopp has its own draw. They're a little less attractive today than they were yesterday.
Assumed he would do the same. Definitely expected Pep to leave first. I think he is a good shout, and would do a decent job. I always felt he was Liverpool's best player of the PL era (although Alisson and Salah I will concede have surpassed him, and if it weren't for that Pickford challenge, Van Dijk too). I think he will be fine as manager. He genuinely looks like a competent manager. At worst he will be like Arteta, not quite good enough to win the PL, but will still get you cups. As a United fan, glad to see him gone, as he would have won a few more leagues and cups for sure, although admittedly I'll miss his interviews etc. Germany seems to obvious job next. If the Beeb are on the ball they will grab him for the Euros coverage, as I imagine he would make a great pundit. After Germany he would probably retire, alhough I'd love to see what he could do in Italy.
Just hope he doesn't join the Saudi league. He's been great for the Premier League and football in this country and will rightly go down as a legend not just of Liverpool but English football. That would totally spoil his legacy if he said he was leaving for personal reasons to get his life back then f*cked off there. Don't think it'll happen though, he doesn't seem that kind of guy. Although neither did Jordan Henderson.....
