I'm not sure, it was years ago. The girl in question is now married to some ultra religious dude and is back in Belem. And on topic this is Belém taken by my lunatic daughter last week in a stopover there. The others are on a road trip into the jungle too see the waterfalls above and the little place we stayed in.
Just been to the mountain village of Baan Mae Na Chon with a few volunteers and a couple of optometrists who have given the kids at the school there an eye test. These kids see very little outside of the school which is atop one of the highest mountains in Thailand and it's a grim existence. 78 kids and eight teachers all got their eyes tested and a few had their blood pressure taken and a few had sporadic diabetes readings. Whenever I feel low, I go to these places in my mind and realise how lucky I've been and how lucky I am.
Oooooh my my.. Still have your wife's on mine I think, I can't remember if I still have her friends, though I'm a little far from Brazil.
this lady is 94 years old and has just had her first eye test. The picture was taken on a recent visit to the town of Mae Hong Son in northern Thailand where a group of us helped a charity carry out a few eye tests for the local surrounding schools and villlages. I say a few, we ended up doing 369 people.
Our recent trip up to Mae Hong Son saw 369 people have their eyes tested, including most of the villagers who came down from the hills to see us. This picture is of the first of the Karen tribe to come to the clinic.
The walled city would keep you entertained for a few days, lots to see walking around and the eateries inside are very good. Outside of that there's plenty of boat trips to neighbouring islands, either for day trips or overnight which I'd recommend if you bore easily of walking round looking at walls.
