It still feels weird saying this, but the only time I’ve ever wanted Palace to get promoted…

As he really had to tell everyone when a paper ran with the story that "English Fans" had raised so much money, he's not English he's Welsh. And woe betide any publication that didn't mention him by name.

Stinks of a "look at me, look at me", although some of the abuse the lad has got in recent days has been insane.

Regarding the crying German girl, I agree with Dirk. Some of the posts about her were absolutely disgraceful. Thankfully, it was only a minority of knuckle dragging idiots.

The 4-1 was in 2005, how is that remotely relevant to tomorrow nights game?

Lol so German fans had a good impression of English football fans prior to the match??

I didn’t know what happened with this young girl, so can’t really comment, but the booing of the anthem is embarrassing tbh. Same with booing players taking the knee, it makes me embarrassed to be English. These people are scumbags. No doubt mostly ‘true patriots’ that have never done a single thing for their country

Don't know why people genuinely get annoyed at booing anthems, German fans did it to us last time we played there

Most of the time England play away, the opposition fans boo and whistle every single touch.

As for the girl, she doesn't need to be bullied and I don't really get why a camera man shows her. However it was bloody funny everyone cheering when it came up on TV, and the bloke who set up that fundraiser is an absolute freak.

It’s just needlessly disrespectful. It is what it is, and I know we’re not the only one to do it, but it still makes me cringe.
Personally I’d be happy for them to scrap the anthem at the start.

Southgate is practically perfect for international football. He understands how to keep players focussed over the course of a tournament, how to build good squad harmony and how to put a solid foundation in that's difficult to beat.

Whether that would translate to club management I'm not so sure as to be successful you need to take the initiative more. But I think now it's finally becoming clear to everyone, particularly in this country, that club and international management are very different and someone excelling in one (Loew, Scolari, Capello, Eriksson etc) may not excel in the other.

What I like about Southgate as opposed to other managers we've had is that because he has come through the u21s he understands that we need a culture shift from the bottom up. Whereby players performing well for the country at younger ages can play for the senior side regardless of club form or affiliation, we've seen this with Hudson-Odoi, Foden, Calvert-Lewin and others. It's clear that more focus is being put on success at younger levels hence us winning recent World Cups at u17 and u20 level.

The culture is changing, it's a culture of success and to not be scared or worried about putting on the England shirt, especially when playing in a tournament. Southgate has been instrumental in that and I believe that with him at the helm (or involved in some way or another) then we can build a real foundation for success, there's no reason that we can't achieve what other top nations achieve by reaching finals and semis on a consistent basis over the years to come.

A cheer in the first instance is one thing - posts saying "inject it into my veins", "have that you Nazi slag" and "That's what you get for your grandparents killing Anne Frank", and so much more. That's going just a bit too far.

As for booing national anthems, it's just childlike. "Ooh, look at me, aren't I edgy for booing the anthem of another country?"

    Italy to win 2-0

Got a free ten pound bet with Bet365 so fingers crossed for them. This unbeaten run they are on is crazy.

    just a bit ;)

jesus, the girl is maybe 8 or 9 years old. "Nazi slag" Dimwits!

tbh I don't need national anthems before a match, either. Funny when it's for example in the German Cup Final and both teams only have a few germans in it, the rest is, mildly said, confused.

Btw: I remember the times in the 70's when nobody sang the national anthem (just like today's Spaniards because their anthem is a march without text ;) ). Players just stared, concentrated and focussed.
Today it's sometimes more like "let's try to demonstrate how bad we can sing" or " let us intimidate them with distinctive screaming " (especially the Italians do it). Gone are the good old times ;)

    ***********

Anyway, could we please go back to something more pleasant. Semi-finals beginning in 2 hours. Yeah! ;)

Just Giving made a statement on the donation page that the family had been located but had asked that the money raised be donated to UNICEF.

Good to hear that it wasn't just a publicity stunt.

Hopefully the "social media activists" won't make another fuss of it now that the money should be donated: "What??? They don't want our good english money, the Nazis?"

edit: Damn, just wanted to get away from it now I've done another post.
    OK, another try:

Anyway, could we please go back to something more pleasant.
    Semi-finals beginning in 2 hours 1.5 hours. Yeah! ;)

Yeh, whatever the motives, it seems quite a lot of money was raised for a good cause.

Watching grown men blub at football games can be funny but getting pleasure out of seeing kids crying is a bit weird imo.

The thing is it's "football's coming home" since we claim to have invented it. :shrug

I really don't blame the entire rest of the world for being heartily sick of hearing it though.
