I'm looking at the New Focus ST line X (below). Does anyone else have one, or tried the previous model? What are they like? ST-Line X
Yes, it's different trim, slightly lower. It's supposed to be sporty version. Looks similar to Merc A class in shape.
He won’t be able to talk from experience as he doesn’t have one yet. Seems to be available in a 1.0 or 1.5 petrol or 1.5 and 2.0 diesel. Max output seems to be 150bhp. I won’t say about economy as this “combined mpg” stats you get are never realistic. I’d estimate between 50 and 60mpg.
I am looking at the 1.5L Diesel engine. The ford brochure show a combined mpg of 76.3-80.7. Whilst they wont be the actual mpg I get, it is higher than the other engines on offer, which was attractive to me as I do a lot of miles getting to work and back. I am going to test drive it on Friday, then make a decision.
It is, but if its got better mpg I'd rather have one. What I will save in fuel costs in a year would make up for any extra road tax. My current car is a diesel and it was the in thing at the time, so I am hoping it swings back round. I know I am killing the planet, but I will just have to start wearing hemp underwear to make up for it
It's not going to swing back round mate, and petrol is cheaper at the pumps too. I drive a diesel too, but I doubt I'll be buying another one. As you say, fairly recently (3 - 4 years ago) diesel was supposed to be environmentally friendly compared to petrol, but now it's the other way round.
I'd not thought of that. Think I'll check how much better mpg is on diesel version to justify pump price. Cheers
Yeah they make it up as they go along. Similarly to you, I have a diesel. My last 3 cars have been diesels but I think it’ll be petrol after this. Petrol is significantly cheaper at the bump and has come such a long way in fuel efficiency. There isn’t a huge deal between petrol and diesel mpg anymore. I think with diesels being taxed more in future it just may not be worth it.
Also diesel engines are now much more complex than petrol, a long way from the old oil burners of 20 years ago with 21st century high pressure common rail injection and of course potentially bank breaking dpf problems.
A mate of mine was put off diesels for life with DPF problems. He had a petrol fiesta and jumped on the diesel bandwagon. Audi A3, and a Vauxhall Insignia. Had both for only 2 months each and each in the garage 3 times with irresolvable DPF problems. He’s now got a petrol and said he’d never touch a diesel again, understandably. I’ve been lucky enough not to have a single issue.
Touch wood I've had no issues with mine either thankfully, Christ knows how much a new one would cost. I've a mate at work whose 66 plate Discovery has been in twice since Christmas with DPF issues, the first time they had it 3 weeks! It's all been under warranty and she's had courtesy cars but still a pain and a lot of messing about.
Would love a 4 series but theyre still far too pricey at the minute with heavy mileage. Talking 15k for a car with anything between 75k and over 100k on it. Still a year to pay off on my car so the prices might drop. Not hopeful though and the max I'll be looking to pay is 10k. 6 series is lovely too.
Sounds expensive. I've been looking at 18 plate 3 Series and I can get one with less than 10k on the clock for about £19k, petrol or diesel. The new model 3 series will be in showrooms in May though so I'll hang on and either wait for a 12 month old new model or hope the old shape will get even cheaper.
New 3 series looks great. Looked at a few 3's but opted for a 5 two years ago. Will probably end up getting another one.
They say it's 'all new' but the specs suggest it's the same 4 pot petrol/diesel engine. I love those wheel spinners by the way!
