I like that one. Maybe we could add to it and make every individuals category about there club. BTW what is this Mafia thing people keep talking about?
It would be important for the independent adjudicator to decide if the categories as a collective are ok to actually allow everyone to make a team of reasonable balance.
Yep as I said they'd need to be balanced out properly first, that was a rough guide. Yeah we'd need that element. To introduce that risk, as well as the drafters picking from nations/regions, we could have some drafters who have secret categories limited to a certain criteria like they must have played for 2 foreign clubs as an example.
What about we number categories from 1-11 and each round you pick a number and the category is pm'd to you. There could be one category that's a bitch as well.
You missed a few Italian players Italy are lacking in the midfield and possibly up front and Brazil are very weak defensively imo.
I like the idea of everyone having an input into a category that's chosen which is kept secret & also that you choose your own destiny by picking which category you have to fill by choosing a number. Alot of unknown elements that would keep things interesting. Of course then you wouldn't be revealing what criteria you were filling when you picked your players, keep it all secret.
The Lottery Draft Brilliant. Yes, do you take the gamble by creating a nightmare category (with the risk of being given it yourself!) E.g Category X: Choose a footballer who was a cousin of a Ballon d'Or winner AND played 1 game for Southampton.
I'm trying to think of how to introduce player steals into a draft, that would be quite brutal & more importantly funny. Stealing Le Tissier off Shane, imagine!
Everyone can pick (in secret, via PM to someone who isn't playing) one great player before the draft starts, it's first come, first served. If you pick a player someone else has already picked, you have to pick another one until everyone has a different player. You also include on that PM an awful player. In the draft, if someone picks that good player you sent, you get the good player instead of him, and they get given the shit player you PM'd.
I like the sound of this. To flesh this idea out a bit... When you all send the player you want, if more than one person goes for the same player that player is blocked from being claimed & you don't get them. Then if you didn't get a player you bid again with all the players claimed in the first round of PMs unavailable. If you fail to take an unclaimed player then you have to take your bad player if the player you wanted is drafted. Quite a few ways to go with it.
so for the most brutal draft ever, so far we have roughly something like... 1. Everyone chooses a category to make up a round that they keep secret. 2. Everyone PMs a player they want to have as a 'landmine' that they get if they're picked by another player, with the unlucky sod getting a shite player instead. 3. If you don't claim your player you have to bid again, fail again & you get given the shit player if the last player you wanted is picked. 4. Choose your category before the round starts by picking a random number.
SpursLegend/Ollie to host? Name for draft? Lottery... brutal... sudden death... draft roulette...? I'll add it to the OP.
'The Land Mine Draft' could be a decent name for it. Mr James Welham can have a pop at hosting this one... or I think Guyett wanted to mod one...
