''Is he the best in the world? He might not get the attention of Lionel Messi and Ronaldo but yes,I think he just might be,'' said Zidane.

High praise indeed from ZZ,imo he is the best all round player in the prem & maybe europe, your thoughts....

I think Zidane is about to be put in a straightjacket and be sent to the funny farm.

There's no doubt when Gerrard is on form he is one of the best in the world.

In my opinion, this season Messi is miles in front of everyone.

    In what sense ?

    Deadball - Gerrard

    Defensive duties - Pretty equal

    Dribbling - Messi hands down

    Long range shooting - Gerrard

    Finishing - Messi

Ability to pick a pass - Gerrard is quality ..but he is no Messi

    SO not really ;)

You have to take into account how often Zidane actually watches Gerrard play. No doubt he would have seem him put in a brilliant performance against Madrid but does he watch the games were he isn't on form and doesn't do much?

You will not find anybody who denies that when on form he is a awesome player but you can say that about a lot of players. It's all about how often you do it....

Didn't say he wasn't mate, but I still wouldn't swap Gerrard for anyone, he's made for Liverpool, Liverpool are made for him, I think the same about Messi and Barca. Some players are like that, never reproduce the form/class they showed at their original club, Robbie Fowler was a prime example of this, the second he left Liverpool he wasn't half the player he was.

Now Gerrard has Torres to take some of the burden of goalscoring he's looking a better player. If only we could have kept these two fit all season, I fear we'd have been out of sight ;)

Gerrard is my favourite player so maybe a little bias but I would say he was the best all rounder in the world.

No one in the world could replace him at Liverpool and be anywhere near as effective as he is.

TBH, Messi is the world best right now without any doubt, but Gerrard is at his peak.

    As for attributes.

    Deadball - Gerrard
    Defensive duties - Gerrard
    Dribbling - Messi
    Long range shooting - Gerrard
    Finishing - Messi
    Long range pass - Gerrard
Ability to pick a pass - Messi
    Most Dangerous - Messi

When you look at the ages! it saying Gerrard as hit his prime, Massi still on his way there, God help us:cry:

I have no doubt what ZZ saying was Gerrard is a "world player" meaning very close to being the worlds best for the role he plays, but Messi in the next couple of seasons will take his football to whole new level.

They're different players. When was the last time you saw Messi tracking back and getting stuck in?

Gerrard as mentioned is the best all rounder in the world, going forward there's obviously no one better than Messi.

No doubt Gerrard will put in some more turd performances in an England shirt at the next world cup to show his doubters who is actually right.

As have/will almost every England player, like they have done since 1966, nothing new.

Thats one very underrated aspect of his game ...Ive lost count of the times he has helped out Alvez at rightback

Plus Messi does not cheat ...No punching the ball into the goal and stuff like that :whistle

He isn't an all round player though. I think it's hard to compare players when not in the same league though, and it's quite pointless as every player is different.

Messi's only young, he's got plenty of time to follow in Ronaldo's footsteps :)
