Messi and Gerrard are two completely players. But when you look at how good Messi is already, at what? 21 still? It scares the crap outta me at how good he will be in the coming years.

I would say that Gerrard would be in my top 3 midfielders in the world at the moment, but I personally think the best cm in the world is Xavi - for me he just oozes class.

I agree with a point made earlier that Gerrards performances are enhanced because he is playing for Liverpool and they are 'his club'.

10 Ronaldos with Cassilas in net would be unstoppable. Hardly like Ronaldo cant tackle is it.

I'd probably agree with you, but would I have him over Gerrard in my team? Simply no. Gerrard is the best all rounder in the game today.

I reject the idea that anyone can win a game on their own .

However if we accept the idea that one player can have a massive impact on a game , I still don't accept that Gerrard has done this more than any other player , as you suggest .

Take Diego Maradona , the closest anyone has come to winning a World Cup single handed in 1986 . Then look at his impact on Napoli .

I remember two games, where his impact on the game actually won us the game. Olympiarkos, and Milan in the 2005 Champions League final, and West Ham in the FA Cup final. You can't say his impact on those three games he single handedly won us those games. I know the other players who scored helped, but Gerrard grabbed the game and made the chances.

Yes he had a huge influence, I'll accept that 100% , I was just being pedantic and saying that I refute the idea of an individual winning a game on his own .

Also the idea that Gerrard has done it more than any other player . No, I'd suggest Maradona for one did it more often .

But that's not to say that Gerrard hasn't done it more than any other Premiership player in the last few years .

Pedantic to the extreme. Of course one man no matter how brilliant could win a game against eleven men, it's just a figure of speach.

There isn't a player in the game today that can influence a game as much as Gerrard can though.

I'd suggest the opposite is true, as great a player Maradona was I've never seen him winning 50/50 balls in midfield, spraying 40 yard pinpoint passes, making last ditch tackles and all the other things that are part of Gerrards game. They both scored and set up great goals, they both were at their best when the big games came around, but Stevie is a much more 'complete' player imho.

so now gerrard is the best player to ever play the game is he?:hmmm

imo gerrard seems so much more influential then messi because while messi has world class players all around him who can influence a game gerrard probably just has torres

I don't see the point of comparing Gerrard to Messi. Gerrard is an attacking midfielder, Messi plays further forward and usually out wide. Both are very influential in their own way but I feel their styles and roles are too different to be compared.

To the people who bring up Gerrard's international form, is it really that important? Champions League football is generally a higher class of competition and Gerrard has proven he can excel at that level.

all any team would need to do is put a mirror on the side and all that will be left will be them against casillas
