yeah felt really bad for the German girl. She was in bits. It sounds like the horse played up for the previous girl as well. It’s a bit shit that you can be in the form of your life, but it can all go wrong cus your random horse is a dick!

I've really enjoyed The Olympics. But I do wonder what good causes are potentially missing out on support given the huge sums invested in our successful participation. £350m of lottery money allocated for Tokyo isn't it?

It's difficult to measure what a 'good cause' is though. Olympic success definitely helps inspire people to take up sports they might not have thought of trying previously and even though the vast majority won't be any good, it gets people more active. We're now in the multi generational phase of the lottery funding and it's noticeable how many of today's medallists are talking about being inspired as a child to take up the sport from someone who won gold in Beijing 2008 or even London 2012 which is almost a decade ago now. Lottery funding created the success in those Olympics and that success succeeded in inspiring future generations.

Then there's the intangible 'feel good factor' that things like sporting success can bring to the nation. The Olympics has a wide reach with a lot of sports for everyone to follow so there's something for most demographics and cultural backgrounds somewhere in the programme. I think overall it's probably worth the money. It's certainly achieved more than I thought it would when the lottery was launched in 1994 with the promise that it would boost funding for the Olympic team. The transformation has been staggering over the decades since.

I suppose I was referring to the existing lottery funding of Health, Education, Environment and Charitable causes. Sport currently receives about 50% of the lottery funding given to that group for instance.

It must be tricky weighing-up how to allocate the funding programmes - and tbh not something I've really thought through prior to it crossing my mind a bit earlier so don't want to put a dampener on it like :).

    what Sam said.

I think it’s money we’ll spent and that’s not including the glory/bragging rights/feel good factor. Much of the benefit is intangible. It can’t really be measured in monetary terms very accurately. It’s inspirational for kids and adults. It does inspire people to be active. How much money does obesity and poor physical health cost the country every year.

Such a shame we couldn't turn that silver to gold in the men's 4x100m relay. One hundredth of a second. Looks like the athletics team won't be getting any golds this year. That was probably our best chance after the injuries to KJT and Asher-Smith. Bronze for the women which is a good result considering Asher-Smith is hampered. And a brilliant silver for Laura Muir who finally gets a major championship medal.

Climbing a wall is also an Olympic sport which I didn't know , Polish girl was well fast .

Canada have just beaten Sweden in a penalty shoot out in the Women's Football , the standard of the penalties made England's efforts in any of the competitions they've ever been knocked out in look good , Canada managed by a British woman think Team GB managed by a Dutch woman should do a swap.

What odds on Italy winning both the individual 100m and and relay title?!

Our guys will probably see it as a missed opportunity.

Outstanding from Laura Muir - ran a really sensible race and looked in controlled all the time.

We must have won or got medals the Modern Pentathlon each time !

Brilliant finish to the 100 mens relay. Strange seen a white guy come from behind and overtake a black guy in a sprint. Disappointing that hassan didn't win the 1500 to set up a possible treble gold if she won the 10000 as well

What will happen first, England winning a major football tournament or the United Kingdom winning Eurovision? I'm going for neither in my lifetime

She's a great boxer, and definitely got star quality about her as well. Could see her getting signed on to Matchroom, and fighting on big professional cards if she wants to after this as she'll be one of the best in the world.

    The Madison in the cycling.

I love watching this over 200 laps.

Bikes all over the track and does look disorganised at times.

Blimey - you’d be gutted to do all this cycling and end up 4th!

Literally going around in circles !

    Must give them headaches .

Did really well at the end to pull that through.

    Well done GB.
