It's kind of worth losing a couple of quid a week on the lottery to see us doing so well knowing that your loss is partly why they are winning . They'll be able to jump on Eurostar to get to Paris in 2024 that'll save a few Bob
Unless France gets put on the amber plus list again because of a high number of cases of the Zebra variant on Reuinion island?
That was awesome was the keirin. Even the commentators were blown away with the breakaway so early on.
That will probably be his last Olympics. What a way to sign out. Incredible. I didn’t think he had another gold in him
I'll be honest, I thought his legs had gone. He'd been struggling for recovery all week, got nowhere in the sprint event and in the keirin he finished a distant fourth in his first heat. He was so far off the pace I didn't think he'd even get through the repecharge. Then he found some pace, won a high quality repecharge and didn't look back after that. The final performance was true class. I suspect that'll be his last hurrah now though. You could tell he was really creaking this Olympics and age was right on the verge of getting the better of him. There's no way he'll be at Paris aged 36, he should leave on a high.
I think he left every ounce of what he had left out there for that race. His legs must have been on fire in the last 2 laps.
Oh dear - so close to gold in the 4x100 metre s. Now might not end up with anything. One of our guys has failed a drugs test. CJ Ujah: Tokyo Olympic silver medalist suspended over alleged doping
Life ban, too soft on drugs cheats .He should never pull on a GB vest again .This is not like missing a test this is a proven doping offence.
GMB reporting a 2nd test is also positive, so presumably all 4 of the team will lose their silver medals. (IIt is GMB though . . . )
It's one thing when you're entering an individual event and you get caught out cheating, but when you cheat and it strips other athletes in your team of an Olympic medal? He shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a meeting again and if I was one of the other three in the relay team I don't think I'd be too happy bumping into him again.
Always remember Darren Campbell being pissed at Dwayne Chambers for costing him World Championship silver due to positive test. Must be so frustrating as a relay runner.
The thing that gets me is after getting that far and they had a chance of winning an Olympic medal wouldn't someone say "erm, we're all clean, rght?"
European gold as well. Seems to happen a fair bit in the relay, I guess just because sprinting is prevalent for it and there's more athletes to catch out. Usain Bolt lost one of his Olympic golds after he retired, as one of his team mates was doping for the 4x100m in Beijing. Also the US team at Sydney in 2000 were stripped of gold in the 4x400m with four of the six members of the team were doping, which denied Michael Johnson from a final Olympic gold.
Olympic silver medallist CJ Ujah has denied wrongdoing and said he is "shocked and devastated" after a positive drugs test. Ujah, 27, ran the first leg as Great Britain's 4x100m men's relay team narrowly missed out on gold in Tokyo. He has been provisionally suspended after a test showed the "presence/use" of two prohibited substances. "To be absolutely clear, I am not a cheat," said Ujah in a statement to the PA news agency on Saturday. "I have never and would never knowingly take a banned substance." Ujah was informed on Thursday of an "adverse analytical finding" - the presence/use of prohibited substances ostarine and S-23, which are selective androgen receptor modulators and help with building muscle. If the case against him is proved, the British relay quartet - also including Zharnel Hughes, Richard Kilty and Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake - are likely to be stripped of their silver medals. In his statement, Ujah said: "It's taken me a few days to process the information I received on Thursday, shortly before it was made public. "I am completely shocked and devastated by this news. "I love my sport and I know my responsibilities both as an athlete and as a team-mate. "I am respecting the formal processes and will not be making any further comment until it is appropriate to do so." I am not a cheat - GB sprinter Ujah
