    Liverpool V Portsmouth

This is the first real test of the pre season IMO..

Babel, Torres and Levia set to play some part....

    Should be a good game...

    I think 2-1, Liverpool....

Result was a bit disappointing, but a decent performance from the team,

Thought Sissoko was by far the best player on the pitch.....

Of course, well done to Pompey anyway....

Torres was impressive at times, lets hope Babel improves...

Main thing is none of the team picked up any injuries....

    Liverpool V Shanghai Shenhua..

Not heard much about these so I don't know what to expect....

Leto is finally set for his debut, so I look forward to seeing him in action... Other than that there isn't much else to talk about...

If he plays how do you think he will do?

    My team would be

    ---------------Reina---------------
    --Finnan--Palleta--Agger--Arbeloa--
    ---Pennant--Levia--Alonso--Leto---
    ----------Voronin--Torres----------

Some half decent performances by our younger players. I defo liked the look of both Insua (looks very tenacious in the tackle) and Leto (looks like a nice signing) both on the left, which is a huge bonus. Was the best I've seen of both Torres and Benayoun, to whom linked up nicely at times, especially for the goal and even Babel looked sharper than he has when he came on.

Wasnt the hardest opposition we'll ever face, but still, we did start with a pretty young/inexperienced XI.

Definitely agree about Leto and Insua....

Both looked in good shape the whole match, Insua was good defensively and got forward to good effect linking up nicely with Leto...Leto looks a good prospect, at only 20-21 is certainly one for the future, and hopefully an improvement on Gonzalez....

Also thought Leiva handled him self well, bar the odd miss placed pass....

Agree that Torres, Yossi and Babel gave their best performance for us thus far...

All though just pre season I've been very happy so far, hopefully take this form into the Villa game......

Gerrard and Torres' goals showed where our attacking qualities are and that extra individual star ability. I think we can expect a big season off Gerrard this year and that would bring alot out of other players.

Leto looked good and on the basis of that one game (which you can't judge him on), produced the quality, I expected from Gonzales last season. I take it Levia is unfit at the moment after his injury but it wasn't nice because of his haircut, I kept on thinking Zenden was still here.

The three new lads looked promising, particularly Benayoun and I like the look of Insua at left back. We need another centre back though because Paletta and Hyypia as a partnership would be turned over by decent opposition, as witnessed against Arsenal. As seen with Chelsea last season, with Essien and Ferreira at centre back at Anfield, you can't take that risk, of being short of cover. We were lucky Finnan stayed fit until January, until we bought another right back in.

The question for me is where will Babbel and Benayoun play but I think Benitez sees them as being variable.

That's the Gerrard we all know and love. He showed more fight there then he did in the whole of last season, even though it was a 'friendly'. About time he backed his team mates up and didn't take any shit.

We need to be more cynical though and get stuck in and back each other up because you don't get points for being nice.

Riise is still shit and pissed me off today. Constantly giving the ball away, ball watching, hoofing aimless balls up the pitch and with a great chance to shoot, passed because it was on his right foot. We need technical, pacy, cultured players, who can use both feet on the flanks, not limited alehouses players like Riise. He's a glorified David Unsworth.

Quite happy to see Gerrard show a bit of a nasty side, made me smile when Masch' milled Drenthe, he pissed me off quite a bit today.....

Even though just a 'warm up tournament' can't help but feel disappointed with some of today's on goings, how the ref and linesman can give a penalty for the supposed handball.. but fail to see an equally tough call with Kuyt's goal....is beyond me...

The scuffle at the end was the highlight of the match.....
