^ Yes it is. Pacheco and Kelly start today. I am loving the confidence Roy is showing in our youth prospects.
Entertaining first-half performance. Good passing and momement throughout. N'Gog was ridiculously wasteful, though.
Cole and Gerrard look like they've clicked straight away, cant wait to see these two with Torres. Gerrard is looking like the Gerrard of two seasons ago. Jovanovic too looks like he's settled in well deceptively fast and skillful.
I loved Kelly's performance. Though the opposition was not of the highest quality, he looks as comfortable on the left as he does on the right. Absolutely skinned their RB a couple of times.
Job done in the first game really Was a good run out for the lads to up their fitness levels for Arsenal.
Gerrard played alot deeper, kind of like the Alonso role which IMO is his best position and brings out all of his qualities Think people forget he started of as a holding midfielder rather than an attacking one. But when he's playing deep he can even start of attacks with his excellent range of passing or even go on runs every niw and then For your own clubs sake i hope this is where Hodgson plays him this season Who was it that started playing him further up anyway? Was it Benitez?
Yes It's easy to forget that in the 08/09 season, Liverpool's finest season and Gerrard's best for a long time, he played the whole campaign just behind Torres. Also, this isn't personal as I don't know your views on it, but the amount of people who say Gerrard should play centre mid for Liverpool because that's his best position, but then contradict themselves by saying he should have played off Rooney in the world cup, is staggering
And truthfully that is what i think as well!! Its probably because with England you can only select English and i wasnt implying that he is poor in that position but just that he is mre effective in the deeper role. With England you dont have better players for the deeper role just that you have more options such as Barry or Carrick wheras ATM they are very short on top talent up front so Gerrard would be more useful there. But for club Liverpool, because players can be signed i think he should be used in his best position where he can control the game and still contribute with assists and goals, he's that good a player he can do all that and thats what im trying to say. He is such a good player and from that CM/DM role he can contribute to everything rather than just the attack.
It may have been but its not the form which considered him to be the best in the world. In CM he actually looked like the best player in the world and worthy of the award
My own personal suggestion is Gerrard plays best in the centre as part of the two. Suggestion for England, Gerrard + Lampard/Barry, and Joe Cole in the centre off Rooney. Then you've got the three players, Gerrard, Cole and Rooney all play in a system and in the positions that they do for their clubs Am aware this is a Liverpool forum so I'll just add that they were impressive last night, but the standard of the opposition was woeful, and they cannot afford to be that wasteful in front of goal when the real stuff begins
I would like an injury free season from Torres... we need him for more than 25/30 games a year. But Kelly, Cole, and Gerrard have all made a great start..
Gerrards biggest problem is, he can play to a very high standard in many positions. In todays game he is a managers dream. Rafa played him both right and in the hole and he produced high standards and scored many goals from both positions. Which is his best position, I doubt he has one. Wherever one plays him, he is more than capable of picking up the man of the match award.
Been spending more time watching the younger lads play lately on LFC TV. I really do like the signing of Raheem Stirling from QPR, from what I've seen he looks like such a hot talent. Absolutley ripped Aston Villa to shreds a few weeks back. Hopefully he'll be able to make the step up in a few years.
We paid the price of not finishing our first half chances. Suarez missing the penalty which would of made it comfortable for us. A frustrating game for us, and a result we didn't want. Obviously new signings gelling in with each other, but we appeared to be tired in the second half and nothing left to offer. Still everything is new, and i won't be too disheartened with the result. Look forward to Arsenal.
