Good point, you look like you're going to sign that French defender from Lille. He was great in the Euros!
The Debuchy thread seems to have gone quiet. Lille know we're involved in Europe and a top side in the Premiership, so we've got money to spend. They don't know Mike Ashley though. Carroll's value didn't go up from last night's England game - he hardly touched the ball. So I haven't given up hope of his return. And the Dutch lad is having talks presently. So he might be our next signing, much needed defensive cover, with Danny Simpson looking like he'll be leaving sooner or later.
Well we're all a bit nervious with the definition of success of not being stripped of our players ... Is a fullback is being signed? Who knows.
I know we've lost nobody for hard cash, but with Ryan Taylor out for "several months", a defender should have been bought, borrowed or acquired with any means in view of the number of extra games we've got coming up. Left feeling a bit under-changed, probably like Pardew.
I hope our scouts will find us a left back or even a right back and centre half, with neither going off to the African Nations. I was hoping for a left winger but the match fitness of Marveaux might suffice there. One of the rags say Lescott may want out of Man City. He'd be great, but the wages cap might stop that, even if the clubs agree something.
Looks like Debuchy will be arriving. Don't know what to make of him as I've not seen him play this season. But Danny Simpson so needs some competition.
That wouldn't be a good idea. He'd go for peanuts and he's our only fit right back. He had some great games last season but has lost his way compared to that. He needs to grow up with his off-field distractions and get back to being useful.
I would rather play Santon at RB and Ferguson at LB until Debucy comes in. I don't rate Simpson at all. He puts the graft in, but he's just a terrible footballer.
The Remy deal looks under threat and once again looks as if we probably won't get our man. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Newcastle's hopes of replacing the departed Demba Ba with fellow French forward Loic Remy (pictured) are under threat, as other clubs in England and Germany look to hijack a transfer to Tyneside. The player completed 120 minutes for his present club Marseille on Sunday as they beat Guingamp 2-1 in a French Cup tie, with QPR boss Harry Redknapp an interested observer in the stands at the Velodrome. He was there to see the 26 year-old French international forward, who has now recovered fully from ankle and thigh injuries but scored just three times in 24 outings this season. Both goals came from another striker - Andre-Pierre Gignac - who isn't apparently for sale. While Newcastle may be able to offer a better financial package than fellow suitors Borussia Dortmund and Schalke 04, the Bundesliga duo are both able to dangle the carrot of Champions League involvement, having made it through to the last 16 of the competition. If it comes down to a straight fight over which struggling Premier League side Remy prefers though, the funds promised to Redknapp may allow him to outbid United for the player whose current deal runs until 2015. It's also worth mentioning that in addition to previous dealings with Redknapp, Mackay successfully negotiated a loan deal from QPR to Marseille for his client Joey Barton. To add further intrigue to the situation, there have also been stories in recent days linking Remy with West Ham, where Sam Allardyce has plenty of history with Mackay - and can also offer Marseile ex-Sochaux striker Modibo Maiga, who hasn't made a great impact at Upton Park. (As an aside, there's speculation in France that QPR and Newcastle are also vying to sign defensive midfielder Yann M'Vila from Rennes in this transfer window - seen in some quarters as a younger, cheaper Cheick Tiote). www.nufc.com
I'll get cheerful when the signings arrive and are being shown off. After Ba just walked out without a goodbye to any of us I've had just about enough of some of them.
